custom theme for wordpress

Featured Replies

Ok... have designed site for wordpress on paper..... now I need to implement.

What is the best way? I have been on a few sites suggesting different ways, but I'm not sure which is the best way.

What should I do?...... It's really bumming me out!

Make a copy if the default template, rename it, then edit to your hearts content :)

I normally create the copy and upload it to the site, then edit online if the site isn't live. Otherwise I just edit offline .

Thank you dear! :D

I did wonder if I could do that, but now you have confirmed it..... I Very Happy! :D

(Although, saying that, I will probably be back in 5 mins moaning I can't do it ;) )

I tried doing it this way too but couldn't do it.

There is just so much code and jumping straight in, it's difficult to know what does what in the css file. It's also hard to remove the php stuff you dont need without creating errors. I did manage to edit the original theme to include my own page background but it looked a bit rough.

I still recommend http://www.wpdesigner.com/2007/02/19/so-yo...ess-themes-huh/.

It kind of just takes you step by step through how to make the generic wordpress theme, but if you have your design in mind while doing it you can edit it to build whatever you like. I ended up skipping some parts entirely as I didn't want them in my blog.

It also helps to ignore the XAMPP rubbish too, just keep uploading the files for live preview.

Lesson 3 step 5 is where I started to go wrong......... I couldn't find the presentation tab in my admin area

Ahh.

Presentation = 'Design' in new wordpress. That part it just activating the theme you just created.

I tend to either edit the default, I actually have a set of themes I have created and I try to use them as much as possible.

Riight! thanks.

The only thing is it says theme is broken - stylesheet is missing. But there is one there. It's just confusing.

Where is my interview on web designed help? :D

Thats odd. I dunno what to suggest as I barely know how to edit mine.

My theme is zipped here http://www.philthomaswebdesign.co.uk/philtheme.zip if you wanna look for reference or see how it works. :unknw:
