Already made a similar post, but decided to create a new one in this section :).

Basically, myself and my partner are trying to start our own webdesign business called 'Pixelise Designs'. So far, this is the logo we have created for it, and we want to gather feedback.

post-5148-1220018777_thumb.jpg

As the company is going to be called pixelise designs, we have decided to pixelise one half of the globe. We also decided to use a globe since we feel it represents webdesign.

All feedback appricated

Europe's pretty big!

A logo needs to be very simple, and be able to work in two (or a few) colours imho. The new PC World logo sucks in this regard, as did the old Abbey logo (the second one down: http://www.underconsideration.com/speakup/...eyOld_New1.jpg) which incidentally was designed by the same people who did the London 2012 logo.

Yours has too much messy detail and has bad gradients (around the Saturn ring type thing).

Is this a vector? What if one day this needs to be on a 50-foot billboard? How will you get it to that size without pixelisation (no pun intended).

Why do you feel this logo represents web design?

I still dont think it works. Sorry. I see you took my advice and tried it smaller without the "demo" - good :). I think it proves the point though. I dont know how much that matters to you, but I think it relies too much on small/intricate detail and especially colour. If its printed small in monochome, it would be useless.

I dont mean to be negative, but I dont think it puts across a strong image and in my eyes looks a little dated. LogoPond is a nice site for viewing lots of logos for inspiration - there are some beautiful logos there. Might be worth taking a look.

Be sure to think about the company name itself. You need to make it part of the logo or put it next to the logo to see if it works, because it'll always need to have it there. On its own, the logo doesnt say "Pixelise Designs" or in fact anything designs to me. It could be anything from one of these "global training" type companies, to a website company to an outsourcing solutions company. I dont think it has enough pizzazz for someone selling their creativity.

Again - I dont mean to be negative and I know it can be hard to hear criticism after spending a long time on something you like, but I really think it needs another look. Perhaps start over and see what alternative ideas you can come up with. You could then combine the best ideas of them and ditch the worst ideas of them. But I would definitely look at simplifying your logo quite a bit and give it a bit of direction.

yes, it should be very simple

do a nice vector logo in illustrator

it should have a minimum of colours (two or three)

and it should look good in mono

i wouldn't use gradient effects or glossy effects

We purposely made europe big, as we are from England. The saturn ring is actually just a mixture of different colour layers at different optacites.

Well, when i think of the internet (and how big it is), i imagion the planet. And as a web designing is based on the internet, i decided to include this in the logo. By including our pixelated effect into the globe, i feel it is incoperating our name and design into the logo.

I agree with what your saying about the colours, i see how that is confussing now. However, i don't see how the logo is dated, could you explain?.

The logo would obviously appear next to the company name, whether that be on the business card or the website. Many logos on there own don't represent the actual company. Look at Apple for instance, if you didn't know who they are or what they did, would you associate there logo with a computer empire?.

However, i think we'll take your advice and re-design the logo using alternative methods. We'll definatly use less colours, and try a more 2.0 web style.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it thou :)

I am not a fan of that to be honest.

I agree with all of the comment above and I don't really get the globe. The web is big yes, but I don't think that a globe really says web design.

There is no mention f the company name either, which is what you really want people to remember.

But if your logo is a globe and is reflective of the web, why is that just Europe? Surely if anything is inclusive it's the Internet and it will continue to increase as more people go online - even those with limited funds (eg. $100 laptop project etc.).

Although the following deals with website design over 10 years for well known sites, I think it shows how things have changed: http://www.wakeuplater.com/website-buildin...r-websites.aspx

Also, here are trends for 2008: http://www.webdesignerwall.com/trends/2008-design-trends/ - this with the logo showcase mentioned above might be some great inspiration for you - they are for me!

I think you need a look a little more like this;

link

Then you can add your rainbow-coloured ribbon, and maybe you should pixelate around the ribon?

First of all , The logo is very generic it doesn't represent your company at all honestly. The mark on its own looks like a crappy browser icon. To make a logo think of your companies founding , it's future the correlation of Mark , typography and it's balance.

I did mention in my second reply that the logo will appear next to the company name, wheather it be on the website or business card.

I focused on europe because we are based in england, thought it would be a nice touch to focus on this particular area. Also thanks for the link to the 2008 trends. Will definatly be having a look at some of those websites. Thanks :)

Thanks for the link, i like the look of that globe and you could be onto something there with the pixelation effect around the ribon. I think you actually understand what we tried to create with this logo :).

In todays standard of logo's, not many represent the company name, as well as the service the company offers. Look at Apple for instance, does there logo represent what they do or actually have any meaning to the company?.

Thanks you for all the feedback on the logo. We'll definatly be re-designing the logo with less colours, less detail and effects.

But apple is a self driven name. The iconic apple has become it's own standard , representation of the company.

the mark itself the ever changing apple is playing on the quality of there products referring to the benefits of the fruit. Just because they sell computers , gadgets doesn't mean they should have a cliche logo that's where you are wrong. If you look at the history of there logo and type they use they each stand for something. It's you as a designer who has to notice that. Saying that I honestly wonder how you design logos without concept.

I designed my logo with concept and ideas that are relavant to our service and to our company name. When you say the apple represents the ever changing quality of their gadgets/computers, it is only YOUR INTERPRETATION of the logo meaning. I'm not saying this isn't the meaning, but it is only your opinion.

You also mis-understood me. I didn't say Apple should use a logo relevant to there business or the services. I simply stated that they don't.

The meaning behind the Apple logo isn't purely subjective. That meaning IS relevant to the company and services, it's just more conceptual than showing a computer or circuit or whatever.

Its just the feeling I get from it, not any one particular thing. I look at it and it reminds me of 1998. But I think the direction you are now heading in with a more web 2.0 effect is probably a good one and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
