  1. Thanks Dap. For some reason my reply of yesterday has disappeared! I did the site to the client's spec who wanted black. However, your post has made me change it to how I would do it were I not given a spec and see what he says
  2. That's what I thought. What do you think of the site?
  3. Hi. When you say the main image, do you mean image 013.jpg? You have that set as a background image to the header, so it will always show behind the text you have in your header div. If you want it to be a slideshow you need to place a script below the header to run it.
  4. A client has just told me that they like the layout of the (1st draft) website I have done for them, although the overall appearance looks very diy, but is "not sure if a lot of this is due to the poor quality of the images." I did warn him that the photos were not high enough quality and he was going to sort out some better ones. Anybody got an idea what he might mean by DIY???? There are still a few tweaks to do. What do you reckon to the site?: http://fpfs.tokrawebdesign.co.uk Cheers in advance
  5. Yes I have the following (it's a wordpress site plus an affiliate's shop using datafeeds)... User-agent: BaiduMobaider User-agent: BaiduImagespider User-agent: Baiduspider User-agent: Baiduspider-image User-agent: Baiduspider-video User-agent: Baiduspider-news User-agent: Baiduspider-favo User-agent: Baiduspider-cpro User-agent: Baiduspider-ads Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: /wp-content/ Disallow: /wp-admin/ Disallow: /wp-includes/ Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/categories.php Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/merchant.php Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/brands.php Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/reviews.php Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/admin/ Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/search.php Disallow: /homeandgardenshop/jump.php They've hit me again so site down again
  6. Has anybody else been hit badly by google bot? Just come back from hol to find site down due to bandwidth exceeded. Stats show gbot hit me for 8.6gb yesterday alone! Just one site affected and I have upped the bandwidth for it. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
  7. Of course it depends on what the client is after, but... Nice, clean layout. Like the colours. The only thing I would say is that the blue part of the logo is difficult to read on the dark background. If the shade of blue is not important could you lighten it up so it can be read easily?
  8. Hi Tom. Sounds as though you want to scrape the merchant's site? I'm not sure whether you are talking about being an affiliate or actually dropshipping. As an affiliate your "buy now" button would redirect to the merchant and they would take the order and deal with payment; but in dropshipping you would take the payment and then pass the order on to the merchant, you would probably also be responsible for any returns, depending upon the dropship merchant's terms. Bearing in mind that many merchant's do not allow scraping of their site I would suggest you go the datafeed route. I personally use Price Tapestry to deliver all the information to my site. This program is extremely flexible so that you would be able to call whatever information you want and display it how you want. However, as with all good software, it takes time to learn how to use it proficiently. But the author provides help and support that is unbelievable it is so good!
  9. Hi people! Might seem a bit strange introducing myself on a forum that I joined a few years ago, but I haven't been here for a long while now, mainly due to being in and out of hospital and not doing much in the way of webdesign. However, I'm now hoping to catch up with everything, have revamped my web design site and now starting to build it up again. I'm also hoping to frequent here more often Jill
  10. Would shadows be enough to help make it pop? On the frame and the button text. I think it could do with another colour complement the green too. What width is it? Looks a bit narrow for me.
  11. Just another possible thought for you; you could use any host you want and do a site using wordpress
  12. Another you might want to consider is Vidahost. I have been through quite a number of hosts looking for a good one, and am so glad I finally found Vidahost. Their support is phenominal, they seem to go out of their way to help you, even if your problem is not to do with their servers! Tickets are answered very quickly, I think the longest I have had to wait was about 20 minutes, quicket by return!! while most are about 10 minutes.
  13. TBH the easiest way to do that is to use wordpress. At the very least you will need to build a database. Although I used to build all my sites in html, I now just use wordpress. It has developed into, what I consider, a brilliant piece of script.
  14. Have now added more content and adjusted the home page to show various categories, including a random photo from the photo gallery. When I get some content on them I shall add an "about us" teaser in the right side column. Will also add a feedburner sign up in side column. Feedback please TIA Jill
  15. Thanks Nuksies. Yes, the lack of content doesn't show the site. Perhaps I should put more dummy content up, including photos. It is a society site just for their members and mainly to share reports and news. They wanted the blog on the front page. I suggested showing other content as well, particularly from the photograph category. I'll add some more content. Cheers
  16. Cheers folks - much appreciated. @lev National Cut lower Center... PMSL! They want to stick with their logo. So I have thrown something up, not happy with it but there you go. Have put it up in the website reviews forum if you want a laugh <G> http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/topic/51476-how-bad-is-this-one/ Cheers Jill
  17. OK, so I have a horrible logo to work around and my inspiration is zilch! I've quickly thrown this up and would love to hear your criticism and possible suggestions for it! Clients wants a clean, fairly minimalist, easy to navigate site. http://www.thecutflowercentre.co.uk/ TIA Jill
  18. Hi all Where do you go for inspiration when you have to do a site with a horrible logo? All I can come up with for a site around this logo is bland and boring! TIA Jill
  19. Sorry! I think I've solved this! I put a "clear" div in and it looks ok! TIA Jill
  20. Thanks everybody - I've got it working! No idea what the prob was, but I uploaded yet again (probably about the 3rd time!) and now it's ok! weird. Oh well, now I've just got to get it ready in time for Christmas!
  21. [sigh] Thanks folks. I really don't know what is going on so I shall try deleting the whole site and then reuploading it.
  22. If anybody could have a look and tell me what they see using IE7 I would be grateful. http://www.idealchristmasgift.co.uk/resources/ If you see "Categories" on the left then that is the old layout, which I have deleted. If you see "Navigation" then that is my latest upload and it should be displaying correctly.
  23. No, I closed the window and had just my home page (which is a file on my local computer) open and then cleared everything.
  24. OK, this is so so weird. I use FireFox. I have just redone the templates for a site, making subtle, but obvious, changes. I upload it, all looks correct in FireFox. I check it with IE7 - front page is ok, just needs a minor adjustment to fit the search button on the same line as the box. I click on resources in the menu and get the old layout, but gone haywire! Site is: http://www.idealchristmasgift.co.uk I have cleared my cache and everything else I can think of. I looked at the source from IE7 and it is the old template. Looked at the source in Firefox and it is the new template. I removed something from the home page and uploaded it. Cleared my cache, history, cookies. Firefox shows the newly uploaded page, IE7 still shows the old one. Any ideas????
