  1. Thanks for that! I just couldnt spot it, I knew that had to be the cause
  2. Have a look on this site http://flowplayer.org/tools/scrollable/index.html#demos
  3. I recently switched from ie 8 to 9 and have come across what appears to be a strange css issue. To view the problem you need to look at two pages of my site, and look at the More Info link next to the buy button. This page http://www.prepayasyougo.co.uk displays the More info link correctly and this page does not http://www.pre-pay-as-you-go.co.uk/three-mobile-phones.html I'm assuming its a css issue although I cant see any differences between the css of either page. All of my css is external so the first pages css file can be viewed here http://www.pre-pay-as-you-go.co.uk/style2new.css and the secound at http://www.pre-pay-as-you-go.co.uk/style2.css Any assistance given would be gratefully received
  4. Hi all I need some advice, I want to move my websites from windows to a Linux server, so I can make use of mod_gzip etc. The problem I'm having is my host which is Fasthosts does not allow its use on shared Linux servers due to security issues So VPS is my only choice with them. Now for the second problem, I have a blog that Ive been working on for over a year now which is tied to one of my main sites. The problem with the blog is if I move over to linux I loose the blog and all of its contents. Ive looked into importing the contents into wordpress, but as it doesnt support blogware it seems I have my hands tied behind my back as each solution causes a problem
  5. Thanks for your input ZED much appreciated!
  6. I appreciate everyone is entitled to an opinion, but how does your response relate to my question about W3C!!!
  7. I'll explain some more! I've been creating sites for 7 years now as a hobby, I'm self taught and in the next 12 months ill be able to stop caring for my disabled wife. This will mean that ill have to find work quickly, so the job centre in the UK have offered to pay for a college course that can help me get back into work. Obviously since web development is an interest of mine that's what I've chosen to do, now I had a course with a supposid industry recognised qualification setup for September but the colleges funding has been pulled and the qualification has been dropped. Now I'm being told to sit 2 separate courses that lead to no quals and then do the W3C schools quals online. I'm being told this by the head of IT at my local college, what's your opinion?
  8. Can anyone tell me why this thread could have been moved from the General chat board to this one?
  9. I recently upgraded from an old N95 8gb to the HTC Desire which is an amazing smartphone. One thing does bug me though, I didnt try out the Iphone 3gs, now I cant bring myself to go and try one in the local O2 just incase its better than the Desire.
  10. I am considering sitting the W3C Schools online certifications for php, html, javascript etc. But before I do does anyone know if these W3C Schools certificates are worth bothering with, are they recognised by employers?
  11. Any advice is welcome!
  12. Thanks to everyone for your replies! I have question regarding the color scheme, do you think the contrast between the colours is balanced correctly?
  13. Please could you give your opinion on the layouts and colour scheme's of the attatched web pages please! And give your opinion on which design you would move forward with. As you may be able to tell design is a weak point of mine, and if I cant decide on one soon I'm going to have to bring in someone to do it for me. Problem with that idea is I dont have the cash upfront so its vitaly important that I design something i'm comfortable with soon! Below are a few designs I've been working on. Any advice appreciated.
  14. Hi to everyone! Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if it isnt my apologies. I've been having a problem with people stealing images and hot linking to show images on my server on forums, ebay etc I have been given the below code, which is supposed to show a different image than the one the hot linker wants. But after checking with my hosts online faq it seems I cant add this to the htaccess file of a shared windows server. Can anyone provide any advice please? RewriteEngine On RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?yourowndomainname.com(/)?.*$ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^/(/)?.*$ [NC] RewriteRule .*\.(gif|jpg|jpeg|bmp)$ http://www.yourowndomainname.com/images/showthisimagetohotlinkers.jpe [R,NC]
  15. Hi MrBrightside Thanks for helping out
  16. Hi MrBrightside Thanks for responding. So i guess setting the width to auto should take care of this then?
  17. Hi boblet Thanks again for getting back to me. Youve been realy helpfull, i will attempt to remove the white from around the image, one problem ive just thought of is. If i change from a gif to Png it will remove the background transparency ? I understand what you mean with regards to the classifications, i will look into this thanks for clearing that up for me.
  18. Hi MrBrightside Thanks for the reply Here's an image of my site, as you can see the footer is displaying correctly for me in this ie7 screenshot and it also does in firefox and Chrome. Can you tell me what browser you viewed it in, or have i missunderstood you?
  19. Hi Highway7 Thanks for the feedback Could you tell me which images are pixellating please, and what could be causing this? I currently use Photoshop cs3 for image manipulation, and i am still learning it could be something im doing wrong. As for the side bar i have corrected that, thanks for pointing it out.
  20. Hi boblet Thanks for your thoughts I would like to ask you some questions. 1)The image is a gif not a PNG you mention the white matte does not look good, what white are you refering to and what browser did you view the site in? 2)You said differ between the classifications in the main columm: Could i ask you to elaborate some more on this please, or offer your opinion on how i could do this? I agree that something needs to be done with the text in the header, this is something i will correct today. Thanks again!
  21. Please could someone offer some constructive critisism and advice with regards to my site? pre-pay-as-you-go.co.uk
  22. Ive seen many sites that have long pages of links from sites they have exchanged links with. Should i do the same or to add links within page text, or add a few links to the bottom of each page. Currently i have a site that i havent done any link exchanges for but still managed to get some PR, im worried that if i dont place exchanged site links on my site in the correct way it could produce negative effects. Can someone give me some advice on this please?
  23. I have a pay as you go focused mobile phone site that has a PR1 and im looking for link exchanges with other sites of this kind or other technolgy related sites. Pre-pay-as-you-go.co.uk Also if anyone is looking for a one way back link that is dofollow, i have the companion blog of the above site. Currently you dont need to sign up to comment, all you have to do is fill in the captcha form and the contact details which is where you can add your link. Pre-pay-as-you-go-blog
  24. Hi I think a food site definantly needs to be more eye catching, as your selling a food service show your visitors more of what they want, ie more images of good quality looking food. That said though dont over do it with the images you only need to get the attention of your visitors so they move deeper within your site. Once they are there dont just use text, compliment the food items on this page for example Sandwich Menu with images for at least the most popular. I hope this helps in some way.
  25. Hi QUICKLYWEB Thanks for your input. Creating individual pages for each phone is something Ive done with other sites i own. With this site i decided to try another approach, which was to present visitors with handset information via a pop up which is activated on mouse over. Obviously if this approach proves to be an issue for visitors then its something I will have to change. Does anyone think the popup needs a buy button in it to aid conversion?
