You do realise those developers also manage teams? Crockford oversees pretty much all the JavaScript engineers at PayPal for example.
 
I'll remain a skeptic until I see stuff on Github that is being raved about. It's so common for people to come along and claim they're building the most advanced stuff around but when people ask to see it there's nothing to be shared. If you want to keep it to yourself then that's fine, but expect nobody to believe you until they see it. I believe the big names are extremely good at what they do based on two facts:
I can see the work they have published The community as a whole look up to them. The unknowns are unknown for the most part because they don't share anything, or their stuff isn't upto that kind of groundbreaking standard that they try to claim is. In my opinion if somethings so good why not share it? It's pointless creating great software that nobody is going to use.
 
Btw - if you're planning to collaborate with other developers I suggest you use GIT because no serious developer will work on a team development without version control.

I'm sorry but the big name people all have a cult like following. People do know they exist because they produce the stuff that millions of developers rely upon. Are you saying you're more advanced than Douglas Crockford? - JSON creator, Linus Torvalds - linux creator? Names like that are well known in the industry, and any who are better are also very well known.

So why no history on GitHub ? That is a 'thing' and one of the biggest 'things' on the web. Like I said every big name developer has presence on there - and generally a lot of followers too.

I said GitHub not here, and every developer worth their salt contributes in some way to open-source. Building a website isn't exactly groundbreaking unless it's actually doing something that actually is groundbreaking - like Netflix, and others that are pioneering new technologies, When I first saw Google Maps that was groundbreaking.

Just for the record I wasn't referring to you work, I know nothing about it so I could not pass judgement. I was just speaking in generalities

If you want to show us all some of this amazing work you should put it up, I find it odd that you haven't already given that you have been creating groundbreaking stuff..

For me it's much, much more than getting my monthly wage packet. I want to take pride in my work and as a front-end developer having great visuals is a very important part of that. People judge you, potential employers, clients, other developers you name it - on your work. This is why it's frustrating to have it ruined. Not to mention the sentimental value you put on something you have put time and effort into.
 
I don't produce something that I know is garbage, I would never work for anybody that produces poor quality, no matter the wage packet. overcharging clients for hacket out pre-made templates. I just will never do that, it's a disservice and agencies like that are a virus to the industry. There's a place for using templates but those clients don't need an agency to do this kind of bottom end work.
I hope to work with clients (I already do in some cases) who take pride in their companies branding, appearance etc.. and leave it to professionals to put in content.

I don't think there's much point to ssh having a browser extension to be honest, you can just use your terminal. There's only a few commands to remember. How did I learn? I wrote them down on a stick of paper and referred to it. Terminal isn't difficult or scary like many seem to think it is. As a developer the terminal is a great tool in your arsenal and it's our job to learn these kinda tools . When I say learn I don't mean you need to know everything possible, just the what you need to know stuff to do your job - it's surprisingly minimal.
 
Anyway to conclude - FTP is easier for beginners, but SSH + GIT is more powerful, faster, securer and GIT gives you an entire history of your project you can revert to.
If you want to work with multiple devs on a project then GIT is pretty much essential.

Tbh all I ever use is FTP and the only time it has ran slow is when my internet speeds were extremely slow. I've used FTP for 1000 file sites which normally gets uploaded within 5-7 mins maybe less so it's not to bad

This isn't my area, but I'd highly recommend not buying a tonne of followers from the likes of Fiverr. They aren't users that care about the content you post, they may just be a bot, so there's no value in having them whatsoever.

Good point. FTP is easier to use for beginner, but as far setting permissons and that it's not really the job of the FED, that's mostly down to the back-end guys - and so too is deployment really. But no harm in learning these.

Just noticed that this forum doesnt have somewhere to through up a sneak peak of your latest work. I have seen it on many other forums and find it dead handy to show off your latest work, even if its only something small. it gives people the chance to get some criticism or praise on there latest work! We should use this especially cos this forum has the 'attach a file' option which is dead handy!

The person that Nock mentioned is notorious for not contributing, they just post the same advert over and over again. It was waiting to happen, if Nock didn't post something about it, I probably would have.

I guarantee that a user hasn't not joined because they found an old thread, and decided it wasn't in good taste. They might see this one now though, that's the irony of it all.

We have a good thing going here, and everyone gets on fine. I want to keep it that way, so I'm closing the thread. It's not a good advert for newcomers, and it lowers the calibre in terms of the sort of discussions we've been having on here recently.
 
If you want to argue aimlessly, you can find likeminded people in the Youtube comments section.

Then I suggest you learn from this experience and move on, we all make mistakes in unfamiliar territory, if you want to help others then just post your advice directly in their thread. Like I said no need to ask them to PM you. This forum is very welcoming and full of helpful and knowledgeable members, I wouldn't have stuck around if this was not the case

Learn more about optimizing your website. Just like they said improving content, the google rules, and building links. But as much as I know, link building now is crucial because of the Penguin and the most effective way of it is to create different content in every listing. Well then, SMO or Social Media Optimization would be great. ^^
