Lm. got a reaction from Grant Barker in What should I change, please?I only looked at the homepage as I didn't want to delve too deep. Simply put it is chaotic, there is a lack of structure and flow to the homepage. I think you need to concentrate on dedicated sections for your content and show the latest/popular atricles from each on the homepage. What is the difference between the 'News' and 'Blog' menu items?
I guess most of your traffic will come from various searches so users will end up directly on the article they want thus avoiding the need to sift through the vast jumble of content. If this is the case then you should improve the SEO, the meta descriptions and title tags are lacking in structure also.
An Ajax search would be nice also considering the amount of content you have.

Lm. got a reaction from Grant Barker in Did you change to Mac from Windows? We switched to Mac years ago, we still have Window's machines and I don't have anything against Windows but to me Mac brings all the intuitiveness of legacy Window's OS with a better selection of software for design and development.
I don't think I'd personally move from Mac to Window's if I'm using the device for work.

Lm. got a reaction from Spipmalion in img tag or background-image?I would second this. It really depends on the site as certain aspects might call for a background image rather than a img.

Lm. got a reaction from wordpress12 in Problem regarding the speed of the websiteThere isn't one thing that is making the site slow there are loads of different factors. You are loading a stupid amount of js above the fold, I would start by reducing these scripts and combining them all into one file then defer the loading. The CSS can all be combined into one file and compressed. Make all the interface images into one image sprite and compress and cache the other images.
Remove all the HTML markup, you should be able to read the HTML without it and should save a few kb.
Key to page load speed reduction is to load only what is needed on the pages that need it below the fold if possible then you need to reduce the amount of requests made. Once you have done all this you can look at caching and better servers. Load small JS that is only needed on certain pages inline, do the same with the CSS.

Lm. got a reaction from wardwideweb in My website is hackedIs this your actual FB page https://www.facebook.com/fansofinternetmarketing? You just have the incorrect URL for the link.

Lm. got a reaction from fnets in new designI would be controversial to say this is a dated design trend to say the least.
Learn your basic web languages and it will all become evident, this will be fairly straightforward if you already work with C++

Lm. got a reaction from benjwoo in What main design tools are people using?Sublime is a better editor but it is still down to preference.
Before you pay for sublime try Brackets.

Lm. reacted to rbrtsmith in Web Design, Web Development or Web Solutions?Based on where I work - Web Designers do just that - create wireframes, and final PSD's of the design.
Front end developer - (me) HTML, CSS, JavaScript, set up WordPress them if were doing a simple brochure style site.
Back end developer - Anything server side.

Lm. reacted to dap in Dwarf Sports Associationi don't really have much to add to what Jane B says (what happened to Jane A? alpha only ?)
i like the purple blue but i would get rid of all the other colours, use that purple/blue sparingly against a just off-white background and the complementray colour to the purple/blue as a highlight/link colour/hover colour
woah ! too many colours - try more muted colours and stick to a colour scheme (have a look at adobe kuler for example) or put in the purple #313493 as your base colour and go from there - the analagous colours (to #313493) would work nicely and then the complement of that.
the logo is a bit small to read easily - small is good for logos but this could be bigger (it's not the best quality either - starting from vector version would be good for resizing then exporting as png)
i recognise you've worked pretty on this and i came and trashed (oops meant postivily criticised) the design but i think as it is it looks dated and not a) sporty clean and modern and inviting.
and those drop shadows really hurt

Lm. reacted to MMMedia in Need A WebsiteCompletely agree.
This is actually an area we operate in both for design and SEO, in many events niches a throwaway template isn't going to cut the mustard.
If it's a worthwhile business it's worthy of investment in doing it right. Simple as that.

Lm. got a reaction from MMMedia in Need A WebsiteWhat type of events? What is the target clientele?
This is all important to figure out how the site needs to look. If you are doing private events in London then you need to invest huge amounts of cash into the site, however if you are planning events for childrens birthdays in Bradford then the design of the site isn't going to be as significant (see what I'm saying?).

Lm. got a reaction from Jane B in Would you use wordfence on a client's site?Don't forget to also backup your database.
Definitely use one of the login limit plugins, the one you linked works fine and is included with Wordpress now when installing a new Wordpress install. If you do lock yourself out you can reset the limit using MySQL rather than waiting 20mins.

Lm. got a reaction from Jane B in Would you use wordfence on a client's site?It seems a little overkill unless the site is turning over a significant amount of money and traffic. A good password including symbols should put a stop to would be hackers, if someone wanted to get in they can no matter what you do. Keep multiple daily backups and reinforce the MySQL passwords and access to any hosting dashboards.
Also use a basic plugin that blocks a number of failed login attempts.
