  1. I'm looking at building a fairly large directory site powered by Wordpress. The actual building of the site, especially with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin should be fairly straightforward, but I'd love to add some offline functionality. In an ideal world, any page a user visits would be cached on their device so they can revisit it offline. What I'm struggling to understand is how this would work (or even IF it would work), especially with things like searching (which I assume won't ever work offline) to muddy the waters. I should add, that I'm perfectly happy to hire a developer for this aspect of the work, but feel I should know what I'm looking for first. Has anyone ever undertaken a similar task?
  2. It looks like your custom header was included twice on the about page, I can't quite remember how the eBay pages are set up, but I wonder if on your About page you have the header code in there as well? If there is custom code on the about page, you should just be able to strip that out and perhaps add some css to target your custom header and set it to display:none which should hide it.
  3. Thought I'd say hi. I realised I've not been an active member of a web design forum in a very long time and my co-workers (who are graphic designers) are only so interested in web design! I hope to be of some help to the beginners around here and look forward to picking the brains of everyone else. .gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':seas8:' />
  4. Contact Form 7 lets you send an email (I think it's under the 'email 2' settings) which you could include a link to the PDF in.
  5. Yep, I normally start with a chat and a notepad, a tour of their existing site if they have one and then write up a proposal and quote. From there, a Photoshop design of the site (sometimes, if it's a small budget, I'll just do the front page and wireframe the rest). About 960px or 1020px wide. Sometimes I'll use a grid system in Photoshop, but I try not to get tied down by this. Upon design sign-off, I build with a custom theme which has some HTML5 boilerplate elements in and some useful functions and usually augment the CMS with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin.
  6. Hi guys, just wondering if any of you have procedures in place for when you need to develop a large website and then deploy it. I potentially have to oversee a website that will require several databases, including a Wordpress blog and other sections, all of which will be linked, with databases exhanging information. My concern is that we can't develop on the existing server as it's hosted with another company that my client is leaving and runs a proprietary CMS, so I'm just trying to work out how to build the new site and launch with minimal disruption. I'm thinking of encouraging the company to get a VDS to replace their hosting, and would quite like to develop there until launch, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this, as changing the domain of an existing server/hosting package might be impossible..? Any ideas would be very much appreciated. edit: I'm an idiot, I forgot to fill in a full title, my apologies!
