  1. Thanks everybody for the great ideas and suggestions. @jamesosix we've made a major change to the homepage based on yours and other people suggestions - so thank you!
  2. Hi Everyone, I just launched a new website. TopThat.com, I thought i would post it here to get feedback on how to make it better. The site is a digital media competition website where users can pit their images, videos and youtube videos against each other and then judge which one is top. Looking for any advice that I can get on how to manage user experience and get people to use the site. Link: http://www.topthat.com Thanks, B
  3. I use mac, windows and linux boxes. All three have their uses. I don't find it difficult switching between. And if you are going to be a web designer, you probably should be able to use all three. Most people have windows so make sure your designes work there. Most designers use a mac to design, so there are a lot of tools for the mac to help design and develop professional website. And most websites run on a linux platform so you should be able to get around in that environment as well.

Here's some free advice. 1. Make friends with developers (not just because you want them to build something for free, you wouldn't ask a building architect to design a house for you for free) 2. Be passionate about your idea, don't just tell a developer forum you have an idea for this awesome thing. We've all heard it before a million times. 3. Learn to write some basic code and build your own alpha version. (Here's a starting point for a web site: https://www.google.com/search?aq=f&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+build+an+html+page) 4. Once you have an alpha version talk to your developer friends you made in step one and if they genuinely see something in it they will probably be willing to help. 5. Be willing to give up a large portion of your business since you don't have any actual development skill (10% of something is better then 100% of nothing). 6. Be a good project manager and do a very good job of articulating your idea. 7. Pitch your beta version (that you have given a large portion of to your developers) to Venture Capitalists.
  5. phone insurance? that would have been an idea before i went swimming in the ocean with my old WP7 phone
