back button jumps to search engine results
Hi, I look after this website: http://www.contractflooringjournal.co.uk If I visit a few pages on this site and then click the back button on the browser it takes me back to the search engine results rather than the previous page. If I visit other sites such as Sky Sports using the same browser it does not do this. How do I fix this so it doesn't jump straight back to the search engine results? Thank you!

Which analytical tools to use for best results and stats?
Is the 489 pageviews or users, which is totally different? My company is launching an analytical site based on interaction (clicks) rather than pageviews. We will be launching our Beta version in about a month (which will be free). Signup if your interested.

Looking for Beta testers for our Link Analytics system
Yeah, that would be good if you could. Obviously we don't intend to compete with GA as they are massive and provide a lot of in-depth data. However they are focused on providing data on website performance for developers for all types of sites, whereas we are aimed at marketing people for commercial sites. I have created a PDF showing all the differences between us and GA as part of our research, which I would be happy to share once our beta version is launched. I would love your feedback and hope you will be willing to give us a try

Looking for Beta testers for our Link Analytics system
Yes, they are a very good service, but they are going down a different route to us. The main focus with them in providing powerful realtime data, similar to Woopra. Most of which is useful for targeting specific people. Also their trends section is based on page views rather than interaction. I think the best way to describe what we are trying to achieve without giving too much away is a cross between Crazy Egg and SkyGlue. No heatmaps like Crazy Egg and less visual but far more about progressive data that will tell our users more about how many people interact with their website and how. We aim to provide commercial websites with trends about their target audience and filtering out the rest, showing a clear difference between the two and therefore providing clearer data to users, targeting these people to give them a better experience of your site and giving you a much more focused idea of how to attract more of these people to your site. It sounds like you are very experienced in this area and I would love it if you could try out our system when we go to Beta. We are also obviously starting up so there will be room for improvements so feedback from you would be massive to us. Could I ask, what are the main reasons you use GoSquared. What information do they give you that you find the most useful and why? Cheers Jack

Looking for Beta testers for our Link Analytics system
Hi everyone, I've been a member of this forum for years and always got really great feedback from people. Myself and a couple of developers have been working on a realtime link analytics app for a few years now and was wondering if there was anyone who would like to test out our app once we reach the Beta version (which should be soon)? Below is a bit more info about it and you can signup here POWERFUL ANALYTICS FOCUSING ON VISITOR INTERACTION Link-Tag is a powerful online marketing tool, allowing commercial websites to analyse something we call 'visitor interaction'. Yes, we can show you standard visitor information and links clicked on, but it's our visitor interaction which really helps. This can transform your site so visitors turn into sales and focus your marketing budget into targeting and reaching the right kind of visitor. Thanks everyone

What would you do?
Yes, it is a very difficult situation. I'm tempted to give my current developer a while longer before I take an action as my options are not great. If I do get a developer by means of sharehold (cut in the profits), then this would really depend on how good they think my idea is. But you are right in the sense that any decent developer will be earning a high salary, and therefore many do not wish to spend their time on a project of their own. However, because this is so near to completion, maybe that might make a difference. Then again, because its 95% complete, I struggle to understand why my current developer won't just knuckle down and finish it. Seems so bizzare to me.

What would you do?
Hi, I'm in a tough position and don't know what to do and could do with other people opinions on what they would do? I had this idea to create this app (I don't really want to reveal what it is), but after a few years research I and discussions with someone else who made a very successful app, I decided that you have to go for somethings in life and therefore spent quite a few thousand pounds on a developer to build this app. He had an outstanding CV in this particular area and good recommendations as well. After he signed a NDA form and agreed a fixed contract for a price before he began work. Not only was he to recieve money, but also 15% of the company shares on completion of the work (to give him insentive). At first he wanted money with nothing I could test. As this was for the backend code I coud understand and felt that I had no choice but to had to take the risk. After a while the work really slowed up and went well beyond the original schedule. He also disappeared for a few months. I threaterned court action but really didn't want to go down that route so I offered him an alternative to create a slightly small project that I believed would still create a very profitable app for us. So he then came back and admitted that this project was much larger than he originally anticipated. Although this was still much larger than he anticpated he agreed to continue. Now I have paid him nearly everything as the vast majority of the work has been completed, with a scaleable infastructure and much of the front app working very well. However his personal life is getting very much in the way, with everything under the sun effecting him. I would have preferred to keep everything between us strictly professional, but he keeps dragging up his personal and financial issues all the time and has done nothing for months, but with the promise to work on it every other night. Every morning I go to check to see what has been completed, but nothing has, and then I have to chase him again and again. I feel sorry for him, but at the same time this has had a massive effect on my personal life too. He has now told me something else personal that makes me feel heartless to ask him for anything. I have a certain amount of money to market this project, but after that I can't afford to hire another developer. After speaking to a barrister I know that he has broken his contract and I don't have to give him his 15% if he can't complete this project in a realistic timeframe. So therefore I could offer this to another work to another developer, however I couldn't offer anymore. How would you handle this, would you continue with the current developer, and if so how? Or would you search for a new developer to complete to project that would be prepare to work for about 15% of the company?

Hyperlinks in Acrobat to open new window

Is there anything that will help me change these links to do that? I have searched quite a lot on Google, but can't find anything. Please can someone help?

Analytics - Unique event vs Session with Event
Can someone explain to me the difference between a unique event vs a session with event as my results always show the same for both. My understanding is that a unique event is when a new event has been clicked once during a visit. If someone clicks on 5 links, 2 of which are repeated clicks on the same link, then there would be 3 unique events. A session is that someone would have to perform a page view or an event. However surley they would have to do this anyway to perform a unqie event. So what's the difference? Has anyone got an example where this is different?

website averages
I was just curious to see if there was anything like this: http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/statistics/successful-sites.html But with an idea of percentages. For example 80% of sites gain no more than 10,000 visits per month etc
-
website averages
I would love to know how many sites get less than 10,000 visits per month, how many get about 25,000, 100,000 and over 250,000 visits per month. Does this kind of information exist anywhere, even if its just a educated guess?

Unique visitors - Analytics
Hi, Can anyone tell me how I can see the amount of unique visitors I get each day on Google Analytics. I can see 'Users', which includes new and returning, Sessions, which I believe includes event actions as well and Page views. But I can't see how many new people actually visit my site per day. Anyone know where this info is?

Difficult developer
I'm a web designer and have got a developer to produce this project for me. Its a 13 week project and we agreed a fixed price in a contract. I appreciate that sometimes there is a lot of backend code for developers sometimes and for the first few weeks I had to trust him. However he came up with a schedule and said to us 4 weeks ago that we would start to see quite a lot of different parts. However for 3 weeks he said that there were technical issues, and still can't show us anything but he still wanted paying. The agreement was that he got paid once a week if he had completed the work. Last week he told me that the most difficult part was complete and for now on its childs play and I should start to see lots more going on. However its now a week later and only a tiny little amount planned for that week was done. There is an awful lot to do with only a few weeks left and can't trust that he will complete it with his payment finished. I bought this up with him and now he is saying that there is more to do than I initially said and all I had was an idea and no road map or plan. However the entire front end was built with everything I wanted working on it. This was what he quoted on and I have that in an email. On top of that he placed all my requirements into weeks on a schedule, which was done on week 3. What would you do in this situation?

Browser issue with Fluid grid layout
Hi, I'm having a few issues with a website I've created using the Dreamweaver Fluid grid layout. In Firefox and Chrome its fine for me, but in IE and Safari its showing the mobile version of the site. I assume it must be something I have done to the CSS. Could someone please take a look and let me know what I have done wrong. Thank you! www.contractflooringjournal.co.uk

Maybe, but old versions of IE are limited and don't allow many features!
