Dude. There are some days when I can't even comprehend how to start a project because the scope is so large. Just take it as it comes, design things all the time (work, work, work!), and make yourself known to people who need to know. Opportunities will arrise.

I appreciate some of the elements of the portfolio's visual art, and as a design, I feel that you did a coherent job and it's visually pleasent. The usage of light colors has created a sensation of delicacy which does not pollute the sight.
When I navigate in your home page, I feel like the design is overall way too big (It would look beter in a smaller sizer, IMO), and if the "box" where is the content were smaller than the menu then the proportion would be better.
However, prepare a more surrounding content regarding your work. The home page should present the art of webdesign instead of boring texts about the technicality of this area. In other words, an user would hardly get interested in a website filled of long texts right in the home page. The idea of the image slider was quite good since you'll be able to make a brief introduction to the beauty of the art of creating websites.

Be aware that analytics only measures screen size - not browser size. Assuming that screen sze = browser size is dangerous.
 
Personally, I'd just make it responsive. I'm heading down the direction at the moment of 1000px or so wide for the larger screens, scaling down slightly for tablets etc, and scaling to 320px wide for mobile devices.

The black box is meant to be there, but giving that none of you know what it is I will remove it when I put it live, just testing out the slideshow with more images, works perfectly. The only bit I like about my own design is the navigation.
 
The text colours and seemed to of changed, looks ok though. Which version of firefox are you using? it seems to be fine on the newest one.

Hey guys, I'm working on my own portfolio but I've run into some issues, I know what I shall do for the rest of my pages, but I have no idea what else to put on my home page...

As the other guys have said; you're ONLY 18. I'm nearly 30 and have only recently decided to make a step change to become a freelance designer, and even then you could say that isn't 'too late'. We all have times where we think we've squandered time/money/resources into something that could have been better placed elsewhere; retrospect is a bitch.
 
The best thing I could say is, I presume, is don't look back and regret things that you've done. Just take everything as a learning experience and as part of your journey to where you really want to get to.
 
(Also, your English is way better than some of the people I work with, and they're British!)

You're only 18, ou've got our whole life in front of you and plenty of time to learn. I never even thought aout web design until I was in my twenties.

Now coming to your point
You are just 18! and u think u have lost years?
Many guys start to design websites at 40!
And to gain your motivation back u need to just plunge into it and do things u love
google for some inspiring web designs and do some websites for some charities and build your portfolio
 
Having girlfriend is also a way to gain motivation it works for some
 
and last but not the least its never too late for anything and you have just landed in the right place to get some inspirations and best of luck

First off: hi, welcome to WDF. If you want to learn about web design, you've come to the right place. There have been a few good threads already on resources for beginners, hit up the search tool to find them.
 
Secondly: in order to do everything yourself, you're going to have to learn a helluva lot of different disciplines and skills. I don't want to pour cold water on your aspirations, but it's not really practical to learn all those skills in order to build one site - that's not an efficient use of your time. If you plan to pursue web design as a career it's a different story, because all the time you put into learning the skills (10,000 hours to reach expert level in any particular skill) is repaid with every project you deliver. Creating a social network is going to take a number of different skills, and there are increasing numbers of people working in the industry who are choosing to focus on one particular discipline because keeping on top of everything is just too much to handle.
 
Look hard at the time you'd have to spend bringing yourself up to scratch. If all you want to create is this project, you're better off putting your time into finding or raising the funding to hire the expertise you need, because your project will only have to cover a tiny fraction of the cost of someone else's learning and professional development rather than the whole of yours.
