How to reject a client?
obviously I always try to get an exact description and to be secure. But you know their are these type of clients that cause problems and trouble in your workday. No matter how often did you said that every addicional function will have an addicional cost and now matter if you quote them on a hour rate. Because of that we prefer to say no. Sadly that is a luxus problem because I imagine that their are many freelancers/companys which cant say no because of their economic circumstances.

How to reject a client?
haha yeah maybe I will try that, luckily the relationship with this client wasnt so intensive. Maybe he would understand it better than any girlfriend of this world =)

How to reject a client?
Yeah I was thinking in that. But its quite hard to find other companys which could do that. It would be a completly started from scratch php script for his site and if you knew the market of mexico you would know that it could be quite hard to find a company which can you offer that with a quality service. Maybe I will do some research in the USA to give him some other companys. Because that is what is important, we dont want that he remember our companyname within a "bad light" (You can say it this way? )

How to reject a client?
Well the thing is we wont work with him because I think maybe he will come back and say "yeah know im sure that this is my concept and that these are all functions that i will need" but during the project he will cause problems because he will ask for other features and wont understand that their werent calculated. Sometimes you can noticed that before you begin to work and at this time we have no time for trouble.

How to reject a client?
Hey there, in various blogs you can always read that sometimes we should say "no" to clients. I actually have a client which wanted to work with us and has ask us for various calculation. It were a big project arround 3.000 usd. (I dont know how it is in the UK but here in Mexico it is a quite big budget). The problem was that he has ask us for various calculation and after every single calculation (you know that they can took really some work time) he asked for changings and new features. So it seems like the client had no idea of the website that he wanted exactly and after hundrets of emails, where we tried to explain him, that every change in the basic concept of the website will need a complete new calculation,we decided to not work with him because it seems like we would have many trouble during the project. My question is. How do you say "no" in an acurrate form and without being disrespectful without lying to the client?

At what point....are the users right?
That is true. And if we talk about huge websites (i dont know your example website) than we see that they always just make optimization instead of a whole redesign. Maybe because like BlueDreamer already said: people dont like change. Google is a good example, if you compare the design of the google page over the past 10 years than you can see that the basics are quite the same. The redesign last month was almost the hardest redesign ever.. Okay but google is hard to compare because of its singlepurpose website (Im not talking about the other services, just about the search engine). But I think for Facebook it would be too quite hard to redesign. Obviously their are parts which could need a redesign, but a whole redesign wont accept the users. We can see that they always just test with a little amount of users..

Ralia Estate - Hunting Site
Hey there, so i will just give you my own honest opinion My first impression was "Affilliate Site". I dont know if you know what these kind of websites are, but normaly they are just made to rank high in google and to earn money with affilliate programs or google adsense. So why I had this impression? Because it shows very clean and very unpersonal. You use a grid and grids are nice because you can make clean and nice layouts and work effective. The users sees at every part of the page that he is on the same page and it gives him a secure feeling. But sometimes you should break the grid. If you stay to much to the grid it looks boring and too clean. Im just missing something "living" here. Maybe its enough if you work in the header with hugher fotos outside the grid. Its not a bad site I think there are just missing some living elements, something special, something which doesnt looks so boring. hope I could help you edit: BTW I have some error with Safari 5.1 on your personal website (http://www.idesignwebsites.co.uk/). There is a vertical scroll and a white area arround 100 px all over the screen on the right side.. Maybe its my fault just check it

What do you think is the best and simplest CMS?
I always use wordpress for client websites because its so easy to explain. And their are so many tutorial videos (their was a plugin for wordpress which includes a tutorial area to the admin backend, but i dont remember the name). But its a good decision to stick to one CMS so you can prepare some presentation/handouts which you can give the clients without repeat everything again again and again with every client.
-
Which CMS is perfect for you?
Wordpress. But I normaly just do small/middle websites/blogs/newsportals. This kind of sites are realy easy to edit and customize with wordpress. If you familiar with wordpress you can edit almost everything and can implement every function that you probably need. But I think too their are some restrictions, so it doesnt suits for every kind of site...

I'm locked out of my Admin area
If you have acess to the cPanel (webhosting panel of your webserver) and the mySQL myadmin maybe you can check their if you have the right email adress and/or the right username. Maybe its possible too that you can recover your password with this option, but for that we need to know what CMS do you use. For example if they use MD5 Password encrypton it should be quiete easy.

CreativeSen.se - New Project for Web UX Designers
I like the name, the domain and the idea But I couldnt find a RSS-Feed. Will you implement one soon? I think this would be a nice idea to stay uptodate easier.

Experience with SEOhosters
diseño web mexico replied to diseño web mexico's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesWe have decided to try it because here in mexico most of the webhosters are resellers from usamerican services. A reseller programm (with just one IP) cost between 10 - 60 Dollars a month, so maybe a seohoster where you can do the same (but on different class-c IPs) is a better idea. Its quiete weird that almost every hoster that is out there in latin america is just a reseller of usamerican services..

Our company website review
Thanks for that, its hard but how I said in my introduction I want to take this too like a chance to improve my english If I make misstakes just give me a hint No its not a purchased theme. We have done the whole work in Photoshop and after that the whole programming done by hand. Maybe their are some coding-parts purcharsed (I think some jquery image preloaders) just to be effective. Normaly its a good idea for us to buy scripts that we need various times for client projects (like contact forms, etc.) than program them completly from scratch. If you dont want to review it its okay. I know its not the creativst and individual website, but that wasnt the goal. Im just interested in the opinion from your guys of our company website, maybe in comparison to other (not mexican) international or UK webdesign companys websites. When I have done my private portfolio I will open another thread, hope that I can make something more individual here

What are your favorite blogs?
Hey there, so my reason to register me here was to talk to other webdesigners all over the world (okay I think here i will find more webdesigners from UK, but I dont think this would be a problem hehe). Another source to improve my tecniques were always webdesign blogs. unfortunately in spanish there arent really good blogs. But there are many in english. Sadly their are so many blogs in english that it is hard to find the real good ones. Especialy if you arent a foreign speaker.. I have already the obvious ones like smashingmagazine.com and webdesigner wall. The envato networks helps too but were are the small ones? the private ones? the ones of "real persons" which just make their blog for themselfs and other webdesigners not to earn money? Hope that you maybe can give me some "Insider tips" Greetings

Experience with SEOhosters
Hey there, so maybe I will find here some experts. Recently i was interested in the concept of SEOhosters and I had signed up for a package on seohosting.com (because its a hostgator.com company and im already familiar with them). My question is: Do you have experience with seohosting.com or other seohosters? And is important to use them? In the SERPs of my relevant keywords i can find on the first position sites with more than 2000 sidewidelinks from the same IP on different domains with the same nameservers. And I can find like 1000 more on the same Class-C Ip with the same namesevers. So its like Googles spam technologies arent so far like everyone says. Maybe I can do the same with my site, just setup for my webdesign clients on my own sharedhosting webserver (with the same IP) some websites and link them to me.. Im just interested in your experience and opinion to seohosters and the importance of different IPs, Class-C IPs, Domains and Nameservers for google

I want to be a designer
I think for designers its more important to see the coding side. I think designer who doesnt know even the basics of HTML/CSS cant be a good webdesigner, because HTML/CSS are the basics to make a website. So if you are designing a website you should know how the coder will implement your functions and on what the whole structure of the design is based. Obviously its nearly possible to code whatever design. But if the designer knows the basics of HTML/CSS i think he can work better together with the programmer and the final result looks more like "one thing". If you are more interested in coding maybe the design part isnt so important.. Maybe a good way for you to start is make a website layout just with html and css without any image. Their are many webdesigners which makes their design just in code and dont use fireworks or Photoshop. The websites normaly looks more simple and clean, but your code will be one day much more cleaner than the code of someone who is more concentrated in the designpart CSS is a beautiful programming language, it will surprise you what is possible just with the basics of this 2 languages =)

I want to be a designer
Like Gibson already said. I think you should try both. If you have enough time just try somethings in photoshop. Analyse other designs (maybe on www.deivantart.com, its a really good inspiration gallery .. inspiration not copy ) and check how did they do it. Like I said, its important that you understand the both sides, design and programation and than you will notice what you like more. Their are many webdesigners that have started with HTML/CSS and now they know PHP / mySQL / Javascript and even more complicated programming language, just because they like to programm. You will learn what you need with the time, and that is the important think. That you took some time to see all the topics of webdesign and to decide what you like most. Their are many webdesigners who know a little bit of everything, and i dont say that is bad. I just think that at a specific moment when you want to make a profesional business its better if you concentrate in the things that you know good and that you like to do, the rest can do other freelancers more faster and with more love (Im talking about really business, i dont think that this is now a topic for you. To start you should learn HTML/CSS and you should know well how to use it. I think HTML/CSS isnt really hard to learn, if you have enough time you should need 2 concentrated weeks to know the basics and to start over, even with new tequniques like CSS3 and HTML5 (the new versions of HTML and CSS). If you do after that some things with Photoshop you will have good basics to learn more in the topic in that you are interested )

Our company website review
Hey their, so to get some feedback from other peoples and webdesigners that arent clients of our company and arent from mexico i thought its a good idea to post it here. Please take in note: Its a company website, so we did our best to make it clean and serious and to mix it with creative, individual elements. Their are still some parts that arent perfect and we are working still on it. We used some CSS3, HTML5 and jQuery Effects to make everything more "cutting edge". So you should see it in a modern browser because the "standart" (IE6- Version isnt really nice. Hope for positive and true feedback, if you see something that you would change give me a comment, im sure that we will see what we can change to make it perfect Greetings.

Has anyone got any adwords vouchers?
One question, for what do you need them? Like WBC already said they are just util for the first time you register an account. So if you have already an account you can use other vouchers no? Or is their a way? Because we make many websites for our clients in the hostingpackages always are adwords voucher included. Our clients normaly dont use them so it would be nice if we could use them, but i havent find any way to do it. And I dont think that it is a good idea that you delete your account and register another one with another postal adress and another creditcard but with the same URL and keywords.. Btw. the google qualityrank is influenced too by the account history, so its good if you have some good working campaigns in your adwords account because you will pay less.

I want to be a designer
So I just try to give you my own way how I learned to design I think first you should decide what is more important for you. Are you a creative human, do you like drawing and other forms of art (maybe even music) or are you more the mathematic, analyse freak Maybe you are a bit of both so i think this should be perfect for someone who wants to lear webdesign. If you arent some of these types its not the most important because i think their are some other things that are more important than your interests. For example: Do you like working and learning new things? And can you learn without someones help? Because this is basicly what you have to do when you will start with webdesigns. For me the most important was first to start with the design thing. So I bought a old Photoshop version at ebay and starts to read the first tutorial (they doesnt have to be releated to webdesign, you have to learn how to use photoshop and that you will do doing tutorials of every kind ). Than i started to learn html. The site selfhtml.org was very helpfull because I think its perfect to learn. You need a good understandment of HTML and CSS to design nice websites! In my opinion every webdesigner (not important if he makes more design or if he makes more programm work) should have minimum the basic understandments of the both parts. You will see soon which of the two things (designing in photoshop or programming with HTML/CSS) is more important for you and what makes you more fun (its important that you have fun doing your websites!) When you have learned minimum the most important basics of HTML and CSS just start over to programate your own designs! You have to try millions of time and so you will learn. It will be important too that you read blogs and in forums to get feedback and to learn new things. I wish you the best, regards

Set prices?
I think that is really hard to say. You should think in your competition. If you work in all the country than you have to check the first google results and their prices. If you work just in a special city you have to check this google results and give them a call. Everyone does that because its important to compare you with others. If you see that the other companys make prices for every single page (which is in my opinion stupid because in fact how did you already said, most of the time its just copy and paste) than give your clients a price for infinit pages and make you unique with other futures. You have to compare your own experience and services to the others and you have to find something unique to make a difference. When you have finded something what other companys (maybe in your city etc.) cant provide than its okay if you charge more

Hey out there!
Hi, im new to this forum so i thought it would be fine if i give you a short introduction of myself. First: im Mexican, so my english isnt the best but i hope it would be enough to communicate and discuss some intresting topics here I decided to register me in this forum because im searching for other webdesigners to compare knowings and tips. In mexico and all latin america their arent nice communitys so i thought it could be good for me to look in some english speaking forums. Im 21 years old and working for a mexican webdesign company. We have worked really hard and recently started our own client website, if you are interested you can find it here Im really interested in everything about website creations, like HTML and advanced CSS teqniques (especial the new CSS3 and HTML5 features) and love working with some fancy jQuery scrips. I know Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and some other Adobeprogramms to do graphicdesign stuff like Logodesigns and Flyer. I hope i can find some interesting people. Greetings from mexico
