  1. I love wordpress but something to check out is: http://www.silverstripe.org I am in love with the CMS it's so easy to make ANY template a CMS and the community support is unbelievable. Not sure about all the requirements you have as far as the applications but check out their extensions section for modules and search to see if they have the add ons that fit your needs: http://silverstripe.org/modules/
  2. Hey guys, Does anyone know of a plugin for wordpress that would allow me to set a specific page to be viewable only by logged in members? This is for a client who deals with cannabis (legally) and doesn't want the general public/bots to be able to view the page. I don't want the whole site to be login required.. just specific pages that I choose. Thanks for any suggestions.
  3. makes you wonder why there isn't an advanced option for the page you're editing that allows you to choose a different default stylesheet.
  4. i love the oat. soo clever.
  5. So I love Helvetica, as most designers do. (oh but my true love is comic sans! ;-)) I am just curious what font-family you guys tend to stick with for the main content the visitors will read? I typically go with a arial, helvetica, sans-serif set. I know it varies on the site but I find myself using that set as it tends to match most designs.
  6. I recommend checking out http://www.silverstripe.org I just started using this and immediately felt comfortable with it. And I am not too experienced with designing and implementing into CMS engines. Check it out.. it's incredibly simple for both the designer to design on and end user (client) to manage.
  7. haha I know. I accidently launched my page in my root directory instead of sub directory and I've been too busy with work to change it back haha. I should have it all finished by next week anyway so I haven't been stressing thanks for the heads up though!
  8. Sorry but I am not a fan of flash when it involves being responsible for 90% of what you're looking at. Plus it's not very good for SEO. As much as you can, use text instead of images. In the header you use an image in several spots instead of text which is also bad for SEO. Google LOVES content it can read. And ultimately I don't think the color scheme matches. You have different greys, brown, yellow, green, blue, etc etc and I just don't care for that color scheme. My suggestion on colors would be go to http://kuler.adobe.com/'>http://kuler.adobe.com/ and sign up for an account. Then go into photoshop and find a color you want the site to have and paste the hex code into the search bar at http://kuler.adobe.com/ and find a color scheme you want to go with. Going back to the flash thing, you could easily recreate that flash portion of the site in CSS/XHTML. You could set the background as the div background then position the content appropriately. Not trying to be harsh, just some things I see. Also the logo IMO does not match the vibe you're trying to achieve with the rest of the site. The logo is very "edgy" and "dark" and makes me think that it's a logo for a world of warcraft guild or something.
  9. I think there's too much text honestly. I like the overall layout (although Harmony made some good points) but there's so much text it's hard to stay focused.
  10. I almost think the bar where the menu is (just above the banner) should be about half as tall if not less and put the menu links above the main wrapper making it so it looks like the menu is not contained and floating above it. Also if you did that you should make the font a little bitter, maybe about 15% bigger. I think it would add a little more depth to the site and wouldn't be so expected. I do think the site looks good though. It's just that menu bores me.
  11. Overall I really like the layout and colors. And I agree with the first comment. Another little detail is to possibly make the email address up in the header a clickable link. I know you have a contact form below but if you're gonna display your email address you might as well make it something the user can click.
  12. http://www.27bslash6.com/p2p.html I laughed all the way through because I've had a client just like that. Best thing I ever did was cut him loose. enjoy.
  13. What do you think needs texture? And what type of texture are you thinking?
  14. I say just get a higher quality picture of "Andy Slaughter". It looks a bit fuzzy. Other than that great looking site.
  15. yeah i am definitely going to have some nice body background. I will get there eventually. I'm just putting more energy into the site layout for now, then I will assess the final version to determine what graphic would look best.
  16. You are referring to my final design right? the 3rd link? A lot of the copywrite was done quickly without much thought, I just wanted to have content in there to see what it would look like. I will put a lot more time into that, considering copywrite is one of my favorite things to do. Thanks for the thoughts I will definitely work out the footer a lot more. And the "I am a web designer from santa rosa" will not be in the image; I will have some other clever sentence haha. Also below in the "post" where it says it twice, the idea is to have the first sentence be a mock of the headline above it. Sort of like a blog post in a way. Again thanks for the ideas I'm very pleased with the direction of this one. It has a very "media agency" vibe to it in my opinion. How dare you haha. I am gonna find a BIGGER picture of me now, gonna have it zoom in on my face. And do an image roll over for the menu so that when you hover over a link it replaces it with my face. Haha, imagine all the clients I would lose.
  17. OOOOKKKKK stayed up all night making some changes, let me know if you think this is a better path. I am very happy with the new direction! http://tinyurl.com/ybdkk8b Please ignore the copy on the site, the majority of it will be rewritten so ignore redundancy please! haha Also I will find a happier picture of me to go there on the front. none of the links work, just the front page for now. Thanks for your thoughts! I believe it has really helped me progress with my site.
  18. I think it is beautiful! awesome job! can i ask what you used for the header's slideshow script?
  19. do you think i should lose the rounded square style for the menu buttons?
  20. Thanks for the thoughts. When you say weld do you mean merge them as one layer? The idea behind the shadows was to add some subtle depth to it. I am playing with some lighter weight versions of Helvetica right now.
  21. No, I do too don't get me wrong I just think the way a lot of the content is laid out makes it tough on the eyes for where to go first.
  22. haha that was hilarious. while i agree it looks great for stuff like comic book dialog.. it's terrible for actual design. man my blood boils when i see it. although im a helvetica whore.
  23. looks nice but feels like it's missing something. not sure what.. perhaps it's that my eyes are sort of scrambled when trying to look at one spot first. Not a good use of the grid system imo. But I like the colors.
