Constructive Feedback/Criticism on New Design

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

Been away for a while but I'm back :D. Enjoying fatherhood.

Just finished the redesign of our company website. Originally it was a flash based website designed by our graphic designer but I decided to scrap that and bring it up to date! Feedback encouraged so please rate or slate. The site was designed entirely by myself (with a bit of input from our developer, Tom) in (X)HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP.

Personally love the header!

I also like the clean simple colours used below for your body text as well as choice of fonts, headings etc.

For me, what needs improvement is spacing between the columns, as well as font spacing and line spacing. Perhaps the font size could be a touch bigger to boot. Generally you need some more white space between things.

Perhaps a little moving around of your columns / sections as the way they are arranged at the moment doesn't feel quite right.

I'm not sure I like the way the whole screen darkens when you hover on your laptop images tbh.

Finally, for me, although the header I like, it feels a bit heavy on the dark colours and needs a splash more of something brighter I think....

I hope this helps :D

Nice site Gok! :D

Love everything about it.. big, vibrant, bold fonts, juicy header, great visuals and it all validates! Great showcase for a creative agency!

One thing I don't like is the modal rollover where the bg fades out, it just gets annoying.

Apart from that, top marks!

Hi Ben

Site looks very nice - the only thing I didn't like was the hover effect on the computer images. So you're in Exeter eh? Just down the road from me in (near) Sidmouth :)

Crappy weather innit? :p

Cheers for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated.

To be honest I became unsure about the "exposé" style effect pretty much immediately after I put it in place. Although it does draw attention when you mouseover, I started to find it irritating - will be speaking to the others and will probably remove it.

With regards to the header image being dark, this will not be permanent. I've actually coded the site to load random header images but haven't had time to make the other graphics - I'll get round to it shortly though, as well as putting the slides in place in the scrollbox.

Will be playing with the type size/leading etc a bit more too.

@notbanksy - Yeah based in Exeter, and yes, the weather is absolutely crap...

I think it is beautiful! awesome job!

can i ask what you used for the header's slideshow script?

Thanks EvSoul :)

I used "Scrollable", part of the JQuery Tools library - If you haven't ever used it I'd take a look, it's brilliant. http://bit.ly/wJBo5

Coulpe of flies in the ointment: yes, hover on the comps is not the best move. And slideshow box looks too empty.

I love this design.

Good job, BenTheDesigner.

Hi Lev

As I mentioned before I will be putting the slides in the slide show at some point, hopefully today :)

I will be removing the expose feature as soon as I explain to the other members of the team that's what I plan to do.

thank you!

No worries!

Also just removed the expose (I prefer it without :)) and added the slides to the scrollbox.

Really good job I do like the 2 font headers!
