css div background image
You'll need another container outside of your current container: <div id="container-main"> <div id="container"> All your content </div> </div> CSS: #container-main{ margin: 0 auto; width: 900px; } #container { background-color: black; background-image: url("images/content2.png"); background-repeat: repeat; border-radius: 5px 5px 5px 5px; box-shadow: 3px 3px 10px #000000; float: left; } Make sure you put the float: left on #container no heights needed

DWT
I was also curious about this. The problem with using php includes though is that not all servers will have php installed and as a designer if you don't have access to the server yourself then it's a pain. Does anybody use javascript includes? Is there a downside to doing it that way?

background help
In your stylesheet type: body{ background-image: url(images/bg.jpg); } Change images/bg.jpg to the path and name of your image. As far as centering your divs, create a wrapper div and put that around all your other divs in your html. Then in your stylesheet type: #wrapper{ margin: auto; width: 950px; } change the width to whatever your the width of your divs are in total.

A Few Simple CSS Questions
Hi Evan, Try changing your doctype on the first line of your html to this <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> That should fix all your errors. Regarding controlling the look of your text, i'm not 100% sure what you mean but if you just put something like the below in style.css: p{font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 9pt; color: #000000;} Then that will make all your paragraphs black and arial throughout the site. If you want to target a specific td to have a background then you would give the td a class like .mybackground and your css would look like this in style.css: td.mybackground {background-image: url(images/myimage.jpg);} Hope that helps.

How a web design goes straight to hell?
This is too true. Why do we do this job?

what software should i be experienced with?
Dreamweaver is a great tool for webdesigners, you'll only need to know basic html and css. The more html/css you know the better so you can debug any issues you come across. For a designer photoshop is a must. In terms of working as a website designer a lot of employers also want you to know javascript but if you don't want to get into programming then it might be quite tricky to find an employer who just wants a designer.

dreamweaver any good?
Dreamweaver is great in my opinion. It's not a replacement for people who don't know code but with a little bit of knowledge of code Dreamweaver can take you a long way. It's speeds things up when developing your website and with an ftp system built it really is second to none. It's worth the 3 kabillion pounds you pay for it, well it's not that much but still it's a tad on the expensive side and with nothing else that comes remotely close to Dreamweaver it's hard to say no.

Sourcing images for your websites
I use istock photos too. I find that a lot of the images are fairly real and authentic, maybe a little clean but then who wants to see real people on a website That's like having real people in movies as opposed to good looking people
