Windows ASP Hosting required
Have a fair few sites that use MS Access databases and are written in ASP that may need a new host soon. Must be able to use aspSmartUpload image uploads on the server too. Any of the guys offer that here or do you have any recommendations? Ideally a reseller package to cut costs down. Cheers for any advice

Business Bank Account, Necessary?
I have a business account with free 18 months business banking. When that is up i'll just move to another bank with their free 18 months etc. Looks a lot more professional asking clients to put your company name on cheques rather than your own name.

Using stock images / T&C's
Hi there, had an instance today where Getty Images have written to one of my clients saying they have used one of their images on the website and now must pay £900 and have it removed. Now the image was put there about 6 years ago and was put there by a different designer, not me, so the client can't remember if they provided the image or they did. I was always careful not to use images that were not supplied so I am pretty sure they provided it. This has led me to panic, thinking of all my other sites that I may have used stock images on. I have used 123rf.com before and found it very useful. If I had an account with them, as the designer, and then used an image from there for a clients website that is OK isn't it? I mean, I wouldn't need to download the image in the clients name? I am currently looking at my T&C's to mention this. Would having a link to my T&C's on my own website be enough or should I ideally need to email each client with the new T&C's? Thanks for any advice.

Hostgator reseller
Hi peartree - have seen this debate many times now but why does it matter where the servers are in the world? Search engine wise, speed wise? Currently with Australian reseller who are excellent, sites load fast and all tickets have been answered in 10-15 minutes whenever asked. Another host I have, a .co.uk site hosted on a US sever is top of Google.co.uk with certain search criteria. Not a criticism at all, just wondering.

Freelancer working from home - house insurance?
Hi there, I am now web designing freelance full time and work from home. House insurance is up for renewal later this week. Looking round for new quotes and many of them obviously state that the premesis should NOT have any business interests. Now I don't have any clients over to me to visit as I go out to them, does this make a difference? I could go ahead and book normal home insurance but if anything happens I risk the chance of them making it void. What do you all do? Keep quiet? Is business insurance a lot dearer and are there any IT/work from home insurance specialists you know of at all? Cheers for any advice. Warren

Contracts?
Am wndering this also. Have always used the good faith approach but I am now a full time freelancer and am worried about the chances of one client going bad and blaming me if their site goes down etc.

Contract & Terms and Conditions all in one?
Hi there, have got a fair few clients in now, freelance, but haven't sorted out a contract or T&C's as yet. Would it be wise to have a contract document with a T&C at the back? Just thinking that in the T&C's I could cover my back in case of any downtime / data lost etc. I could then email it as a PDF and ask then to confirm all is OK before commencing any work? Place where I worked previously for 7 years doing web design didn't have contracts either, just all on good faith and honesty. I suppose if there is no contract in place and I was sued, would we both be in a situation where it is one persons word against anothers?

Your comments wanted please
Looks too dark to me. Not a fan of dark backgrounds. You'll find some people find them hard on the eye and they are a bit 1997 to be honst. The dark background would be OK if the main panel with all of the content was white / light pastel colours. Also try fixing the width rather than %'s. As mentioned doesn't look like a fishing site. Hope this helps?

USA Reseller Host for client based in UK?
To add, i'm currently taking on clients from my previous employers (as they have folded) and hosting them on a US server. 1st year free and then only $68 per year. The online support has been first rate, with live chat and quick response times to emails and no affect on search engine rankings whatsover as far as I can see. One site I took over was always number 1 in Google with one search and it still is now, 3 months on from the switch. Needed a host who could handle ASP sites and ASPSmart Upload in particular for uploading images to an Access database. These were one of the only few I found. As mentioned, as long as the domain is a .co.uk then I can't see a problem. In fact wouldn't a .com site hosted on a UK server be doing the same?

Image rollover navigation links using CSS - problem.
Hi there, I am trying to follow an excellent tutorial for creating image rollover links using only one image posted on this site and have got it to work. Only problem is that in the tutorial all the buttons are the same width, whereas all my links are different. How do I go about making each one different width in the CSS code? Any help most welcome: Link to tutorial and my post in there here http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=270

TUTORIAL: CSS image rollover - horizontal navigation
Hi there, thanks for the great tutorial, however I am using it for a horizontal navigation bar across the top of a site and each button is a different width. I have created the graphic but can't see where to change the widths for each of the elements? Presume this part of the CSS is stating that all the boxes should be 80px? I have 5 buttons in total. Do I set the width for each one individually and then delete this width? Any help most welcome.

ASP to PHP - Should I make the move?
Hi there, I am pretty fluent in ASP and have been creating ASP databases for around 7 years now so am pretty stuck in my ways on it and can create one quickly. My questions is should I stick with what I know or should I try and learn PHP? If so is it easier to code than ASP and should I be at an advantage, learning wise, as I already know ASP or will it be a hinderence as I may get confused between the two. Anyone else made the change and is it worth it? What are the main advantages? Use Dreamweaver CS3, ASP and MS Access at the moment.

Uploading images to an ASP database
Hi there, I am designing a site where the site owner can update his latest news via an admin area and would like to allow him to to upload 4 images with each article if required using ASP. I can get the form to update the MS Access DB file to update the main things like date, headline and main text but am unsure how to upload the images to the DB? Presume I would upload the files to a seperate folder and then just reference the image filename in the DB? Any help would be most welcome. Have tried Free ASP Upload but can't seem to get that working.

Hi there, newbie to these forums!
Hi there, just found these forums so thought i'd drop in and say Hi. Have been designing full time since 1997, first as a freelancer then at a design agency. Thinking that I may be stuck in a rut and not moving with the new web innovations and want to gather new skills before, perhaps, moving on. Problem is that with the workload I have, and busy home life (2 year old running me ragged) it is hard to find the time to learn new technologies. I am complely self taught, never had a single lesson at college / uni etc. Did it by buying HTML and ASP books and going through them one by one. Using Dreamweaver 8 and Photoshop 7 (companies budgets!) I can do HTML, CSS, some Flash / Swish, ASP databases and some e-commerce. Force of habit and 10 years of doing the same things leads me to still use tables (for ease of use), although I am using CSS more and more for this. I know this is frowned upon now so I really need to ditch the tables. Aged 31 I really need to get into new things on the web and researching has taken a back step. What do you guys recommend as a first step on the road to getting into web 2.0 and moving with the times. Thanks for any advice guys.
