Hey all, So this morning i had a client that was looking the below work done. How much would each of you quote for the below spec with a layout? Front-End The front-end functionality for this page is very basic. Any user should be able to go to the site, fill in the form, and see a listing of all the companies that fall under the criteria. Back-End The back-end should be split into two parts, what companies can do and what the owner can do. Company Back-End Every company (paid or not) should be able to: • Ability to notify the administrator that they want to add another game • Ability to select a game they host and add their slot price for that game. Once they do this they become listed for that game. • Ability to delete a game from their list of hosted games • Ability to edit the slot price for games • When a company signs up, paid or not, I need to aprove it before they can log into the panel and begin to do things. Paid Company Perks • Ability to see how many people have clicked on their listing, and for which game. • Become highlighted in the listings • Add coupon codes to their listings • Possibly* get moved to the top of the listing for each game Administrator (that’s me) Back-End Functionality: • Send a notification to all the companies. It should appear on the top of their admin page and be sent as an email. • Add/Edit/Delete companies and all data pertinent to them • See how many people have clicked on a every company’s link • Ability to edit the cost for companies to get listed NB: This isn't me trying to hire someone, i just want feedback to see what sort of a quote other freelancers would do this for. Lightbox now loads at the bottom of the page rather than the middle of the site, any ideas?

Hey guys, been trying this for a day not and im fed up with it so id like your help, if you go to the portfolio section of my site there is a content scroller with images etc. I want it so when its clicked that colorbox or lightbox pops up. Hey, So im looking to have a few titles and nav buttons in font which isn't default on most pc's its a custom font. Im wondering from an SEO view point does doing for example: <h2>Section 1</h2> Then an image set as a background in css. Will this affect SEO much? I tried to use a script called Facelift, but its not working out how i would have liked, Adam

Back in 2006 i made a script for a landlord. He approved payments, checked if the client had not paid, sounds very similiar to this. If i still had the script id let you have a look but ive lost it along the way!

I myself have only one client ATM, she feeds my projects every week/2 weeks, its bringing me in £300 a month atleast, my house a month is £250 while im a university, theres my months rent covered already. Personally i think freelancing is one of the most freedom jobs out there. So projects take up a lot of my free time, but i am my own boss in a sense, I do a lot of programming during the day but if my friends are like hey lets hang out and im sure i can affectively make the deadline or have a couple of hours filled in at another time. I just get up and go! About 4 months ago i was in your position. I am a very capable web developer but i was just like CBA. I then started getting clients which were not actually trying to pay buttons for work which i had poured hours into. Here are things for you to think about mate. Pro's: + Your own boss + Your own hours + Your chance to be individually independent in some aspects. + Work with multiple companies and individuals + Better than serving big macs all day long? (Atleast more fun for me) Con's: +You dont enjoy designing - As Jock said, surely the money should be some motivation to do it, Plus read the pro's i posted, sorta over rule in con's for me Hope this helps you! Hey all, So ive been toying around with logos for a while now and the only one i even slightly like is the one i have attached to this post. Anyone got any ideas for a different style of logo, improvements for the attached one or even which font would be more appropiate? Hey, So was wondering is anyone on this forum doing some part time work as a Web designer/developer while also studying at university? Ive been exploring in Web Development for about 6-8 years and im studying Computer Science at Uni. I cant seem to find a part time job anywhere but i get a number of requests on certain forums and local people for paid work as a freelancer. Was curious to what exactly i need to do legally to become a freelancer? Do i need to register a company or what exactly must i do? Adam

Hey All, So from a started web development back in 2003, i realised that design and creativity definitely wasn't my strong point, so for most projects I hired other designers to do it and i coded it as that was my strong point. I would like all designers to have a look at the attached design and C & C it as much as possible, give me certain things to add, maybe some ideas and generally how you think im doing. Thanks, Adam

Prior to university i was weighting up my options, with my skill i could have probably got into a Web Developer job after a short while. As i felt experience was worth a lot more compared to what you learned at university. But in the end i ended up going to have a better standing in a software development field. Don't get me wrong tho, i do agree with the quote above but there are some uni students who have experience and build it through their time at uni which is turn makes them very valuable employs, as said a company may have to train a person clean out of uni far more than someone with experience of what they are doing. Also, money should never come into the decision. At this moment in time its hard enough to get a job, let alone one paying 40K straight out of uni. Sure you wont start as low as those not at uni but at the same time theres no way you'll be gettign 40/60K straight out unless your like a genious!

I am currently in my first year of Computing Science. I like yourself am a Web Designer/Developer. But i knew that a degree in IMD would be a waste of my time and id learn nothing from it. I wouldn't gain much if anything from the course apart from abit of paper that id get, in my opinion a portfolio potrays your skills in a better light than a piece of paper with no evidence. I decided to pick Computer Science as i enjoyed PHP/JS and languages that were mostly web based. But i said to myself what is the point in doing those languages again, i want to get into more Desktop based languages such as Java. My point of view was that im applying for a software developer job, i will have java and other desktop languages but ill also have some web based programming experience to a high level, something other university students wont have unless they go and teach themselves. Its always good to bulk out a CV. What im doing is using my web design/developing and some Server Admin skills to make money while at uni. Its by no means going to keep me, i still the use the loan but its a nice extra money for the social activities in uni, especially if finding a part time job is impossible(like me)! Sure you'll be in a big amount of debt but from this year alone, the debt was worth it, the friends ive made, the good times ive had. I live at my parents for the minute but im moving into a house with my mates next year, sure i will be broke but its all part of becoming independent and being able to meet up with university friends a lot more frequent(as i live 20 miles from uni). Overall the ball is in your court, ive told you my experience so far and what i forgot is i get a placement year with a well known employer within the IT industry, this is always a boost as a reference for your CV. If you have any questions on university or computer science, give me a shout man. Adam

Just have a PHP script which runs on the index.php which sends an email to you logging the ip, trust me its not hard, don't have a script handy and dont have time to make one right now, if you haven't got a script later on ill write one up.

Hey, Im looking a mySQL query to pull all the rows that are equal to or greater than say 02-11-2010 and equal to or less than 02-12-2010, must be in this format DD-MM-YYYY field to store this is called date. tried this: Select * from `eventnights` where `date` BETWEEN '01-11-2010' and '01-12-2010' Failed and tried a few more things, anyone could help me out! Hey, So this site is aimmed towards students aged 18-30 (Even non-students really). This site will give information on various nightclubs around the town and will give information on each club per day and also if any special events/themes are on that night! $found = mysql_num_rows($run); change to: $found = mysql_num_rows($construct); Might work im not 100%. Also you may want to remove ur passwords etc from the code snippet.
