  1. I use a 15" macbook pro nearly all day. Switched to Macs just as they went intel a few years back out of curiosity and often forget why I bothered until I have to use/fix a Vista machine and then I remember. Xp was fine for just about everything when I was starting out and W7 is pretty cool now but man, Vista is appalling!
  2. cartoons probably done in Adobe illustrator. Its just the standard
  3. If you look at the source code in that form its just a Wufoo. check out http://wufoo.com/ You need practically zero coding skills or tech understanding - very simple indeed
  4. If anybody would like a free 250mb adding onto a new dropbox account they can use this link https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTU3NDc0Nzk5 Starter accounts are completely free and very handy. Cheers
  5. is this another flash based player or is it HTML5?
  6. Thats basically the idea. Simplest is usually best
  7. Adobe Photoshop + Illustrator CS4 for the image stuff Textwrangler for text editing Forklift for my FTPing bits and pieces Audacity for editing audio Logic 9 for audio composition IMovie for fast video editing Thats my day.
  8. I would chop up into 10 minute segments and upload and embed through Youtube. If branding is important and you want a clean interface tell your client you need to get a account with someone like Viddler Either way you won't have to worry about bandwidth because the clips will roll off their servers and not yours.
  9. When I went freelance I'd say four things really got me going. 1. I'd saved up 6 months salary so I didn't even have to think about money for a while ( when you're first self employed you have plenty of other things to think about until you get in the flow ) 2. I don't think I said no to a job for a year irrespective of my fee. I underpriced myself like crazy just to get a foot in the door. This can get tricky as you may find yourself in deep....water if you agree to a job beyond your skills base. On the upside, you may find yourself doing work you never would have been given the opportunity to do otherwise and find you excel at it. Be honest though, if you are really out of your depth tell the client before you break something really important. A bad reputation spreads a lot quicker than a good one. 3. Can you sell your product, your skills and yourself? Very important, particularly for web guys as we are usually far more comfortable on our own facing a laptop rather than presenting to 3 or 4 business people in a boardroom. Most of my jobs don't pan out quite like that but it has happened. Be prepared. 4. Don't just be a web designer. Most of us run hosting/graphic design/PHP coding to supplement our less than predictable income. I don't try to do everything but clients will often offer you other related work because you've done a good job so don't back yourself into a corner with just CSS + XHTML. Be an expert at one area but competent in a couple of others. Overall, freelancing can be mind-bendingly frustrating and also the most fun you will ever have in a job. I had to accept I would earn a lot less than my old job to begin with and if I thought about the money too much I probably never would have done it. I had always wanted to work for myself and had too many people asking me why I wasn't doing it already.
  10. There are a lot of people still using the tools they learned with. If they started with ASP and it works for the company then they really haven't got a good reason to change. Change = ££££ for business
  11. Google, Android , Intel, Crucial, Samsung just for fun for deving - do a tweep search for PHP, Jquery, CSS, XHTML. There are a ton of good guys on there
  12. Very slick. Solid unibody enclosure, innards could do with an i3 cpu and these are too expensive now but the thing is really slick no?
