I am new to the business world, since I have been a software engineer and writer all my life. But now I am trying to start a business. I am trying to set it up online. Part of the process has been to create a GTIN for a product I have made. I have already downloaded the bar code from gs1 after I purchased the GTIN from gs1. As proof, here is the bar code I downloaded. But as I was trying to set up my page online, on an ecommerce site, I was told that the validity of the Product Id could not be confirmed in the GS1 GPIR which, I assume, is some sort of database. Do I need to contact someone? I already sent a request to GS1 for help. I am wondering if anyone here has any advice and/or experience with this.

The theme I am using has a slider -- a panel of automatically changing images to display a topic that the user can choose -- but it only shows a few slides. I want to extend it to a dozen slides. I did simple text searches to determine which files in the theme are used code files to provide the functionality to the slider. That was the easy part. I was able to extend the code from the few slides to 12 slides. Now comes the more difficult and hidden part. As I see it, each slide has two parts that are not hard coded. First, each slide has a caption -- a text description. Secondly, each slide has a URL associated with it that is where the browser goes if the user clicks on the slide. These two things are not hard coded in any of the PHP or other files, as far as I can tell. They can be edited by the admin in the drupal backend admin settings. So I assumed that these fields are somehow set and retained in the database. But I did a search on a downloaded copy of the database and I did not find this text. Please advise. What additional work do I need to do to complete this task? I suppose I could just forge ahead. Obviously, this data is being stored somewhere. Maybe they are stored in the database in an encrypted form for security reasons. I could do an ftp upload of the site theme files. But then what? Do I uninstall the theme and then reinstall it? Do I just deactivate it and then reactivate it? How do I make my code changes work? I logged in to the Administrative Dashboard and I made the subtheme as the default theme. And then the website immediately crashed and I am unable to see anything apart from "HTTP ERROR 500". What do you think I should do now? For completeness sake, I will list here the screenshots I made when I was comparing my modifications to the original theme. I am thinking what I should do now is try to step back and see if I can narrow down the point where the website crashes. But in order to do that, I wonder if it will do any good to just modify the files. I mean, the subtheme is already set as the default theme. I have to confess, I was not the only developer that worked on this. I had someone else set this up for me. I am used to other CMS systems but me, and a business partner were in a rush and so we hired some guy to set this up for us. It looks like it is called wooslider. in the dashboard, it is called "SlideShowes" but I can see when I mouse over the settings it is called "wooslider" from an information bar at the bottom. Now, I looked online and I noticed that the documentation does not say how to set the URL https://docs.woothemes.com/document/wooslider/ I also found a youtube video "WooCommerce Home Page Image Slider Setup" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPH-HOKTkAY but it shows a "Woo Store" which is lacking on my web site dashboard which only shows "WooCommerce" and then "Slidshows" as seperate.

Hello Forum ! I am trying to set the "Slide URL" settings for a slide in a wordpress slide show. It does not take. I try the whole URL with "http://..." with and without the www. I have consulted the settings on another web site running drupal instead of wordpress and it seems like I am doing it right. Are there some hidden settings or some trick I can use to make this work or find out what I am doing wrong? Please ask questions and I will verify. ​

I am looking for just a starting point. I am looking for guidance in simply being pointed in the right direction because this is kind of intense. Me and a couple of other people have put together an e-commerce site (I will not tell you the url because I am not here to promote it). The web site is a wordpress website(yes, the plugins have gotten that advanced now). The distributor, the people who actually make and send out the products, have made is such that I can communicate with them via RESTFUL API calls. I have looked at some of the wordpress plug-ins for this and it seems that they will allow me only to do command-line web server calls to my website from outside. How can I code my website to make the calls to the REST API of another website? I do not know where the best place is to go to start researching this? Maybe I need to hard code the PHP of my website somewhere? I am just look for a starting point and advice at this point.

So far, I have tried wp-e-commerce but, after I installed this plug-in, I went to click on "settings" for this plug in and it told me that I did not have permissions to use the settings option. I am just starting the creation of a wordpress forum to be used with e-commerce. I figured I would start a discussion thread here and chart my progress and ask for suggestions. There is a thing online that I have found to be annoying. I guess it is supposed to be useful. What I am talking about is the automatic connection of a username to an avatar. I wish I knew what it is called. But I do not remember what it is called. Here is the problem. It is supposed to make it such that you no longer have assign an avatar to your account when you sign up for a forum since it will be one automatically for you for every forum you sign up; but when if you do not want that in some forums? I have created a wordpress web site and I have added my email address as the admin. The problem is that it has this avatar that I want to change. But there does not seem to be the ability to change it. What do I do? Maybe I have not described this perfectly. So, first of all, do you know what I am talking about? Here might be a better question to ask. Is there an avatar plug-in for wordpress?. I think if I could offer the ability in the account settings to select an avatar, this might overwrite the problem I am facing.

Debugging a Web Site using Visual Studio I am studying a web site that caught my eye by making a test site privately. Since the original html and CSS and JavaScript code is on a Windows Server and since I am making a test version on a Linux server, there are issues with missing links because of case sensitivity. Anyway, this is he point. When I load the test website, I get an error message that some file cannot be found. Because of the size and all the connections and files, it is difficult to track down what file is missing or misnamed file. Now, I think there is a way to easily find out exactly what file is not found. I think there is a way to do this using Visual Studio test classes and projects. Am I right?

I have a question about Wordpress Admin Account It seems like I have lost my admin password to my wordpress blog. I tried to send a reset password message but I did not get any email notification. I kind of remember that the admin account in wordpress is a special case and that you cannot loose the password for that account. Is this right? Does this mean I will have to rebuild my wordpress from the ground up? I mean, will I have to reinstall everything? I found a web page that tells how to go into my database and change my admin password. (To post links in this forum you must have at least 25 posts. ) It says: In the MySQL database: 1.Go to wp_users and click “browse.” 2.On the user_pass field, click “browse” and find the ID number associated with your login (there is usually only one) and click Edit. 3.Select the password content and delete it. Type in your new password as you normally would. 4.In the dropdown menu, choose MD5. 5.Click Go or Save at the bottom of the screen. 6.Return to the tab for your WordPress blog and test the new password. If it doesn’t work, start over. But this did not work. I noticed that all the passwords started with "$P$B". So I added these to the reset admin password. But this did not work either.

I have had some difficulty getting my web site set up the way I want it. It uses WordPress and BBPress. The WordPress uses a few plug-ins. The Plug-Ins do not work the way I want them to do and, after some investigation, I have come to the conclusion that I have to resort to doing some PHP programming. I am a software engineer as a profession and so PHP would not be much of a challenge for me to grasp. Does anyone here know PHP programming? For now, what I would like to understand is this. How can PHP set a global variable that can be sent from one web page to another and be used to allow or disallow things? h t t p : / / w w w . p h p . n e t / m a n u a l / e n / l a n g u a g e . v a r i a b l e s . s c o p e . p h p shows scope of variables and there is mention of global variables. But I am not 100% sure that this will work in the context of wordpress plugIns. If you set a global variable in one plugIn, can I access it in another plugIN?

That is a bit extreme. I want people to be able to register. I do not think the way I want my web site to be will work of there is not a registration page. I was assuming that somehow there was a script that was being run in a direct sort of way that was generating these email messages. But, for now, I will go with the idea that maybe a bot is running on my register page and it is getting beyond the Captcha control. I thought this way because the email messgae is saying that someone is requesting a username, not that they are trying to register. My Forum/Blog is a paied web site (to keep out the riff-raff) and people have to buy a subscription to the site. But, suprisingly, this does not stop my inbox from being flooded by "requests for a username". But sometimes they are not but when I email these persons back, I am ignored. So they really are just spammers looking for a way of posting ad content on my web site for free. The user has to click on the "I accept the agreements" field but the agreements field clearly tells the user that they have to buy a subscription. I want to set some sort of varable to false that will make the registration button inactive and then set it to true if they click on the subscribe button and then send a refresh message to the registration page.

How do you disable the request for new username in a Wordpress Blog? I get annoying bot email messages from false email address requesting a new username. This is different from the request for a new password which I have already disabled. How do I disable the "get new username" feature?

This worked. But I still get spam bot messages. It is a little different. Now they ask for a new username. I will create a new discussion thread here.

The sign-up page, in wordpress, where I want to have the referral space, uses a plug-in to add fields. Unfortunately, the referral space is not one of the fields. How do I add a custom field seperate from the plug-in. I think solving this problem might be complex. I wonder where I should start. I think I am going to have to re-open the proverbial can of worms and go back into my study of how plugins are written in order to make this happen.

I get a lot of annoying email from people who do not register on my wordpress and yet they click on the link that people are supposed to use if they forget their password. It is annoying and I want to disable it. How do I disable these? The primary concern is not that they will be successful in hacking the login and gain access. The main thing to me is the nuisance that they are giving me. On top of all the things I am trying to do right now, I have to deal with these annoying email messages where people are requesting a login ID when they have not registered.

You must mean wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org where you can download the php code for your own forum and upload it to your own web site. Well, still, where is this place to point them to where they can close the account?

If a user to a WordPress blog decides to delete his/her account. How do I go about providing this functionality to him/her?

In the BBPress FORUM dashboard, I found under settings, "WordPress Integration". I did everything I thought I should do.. Still, it does not seem that when a blog is made there is an automatic form addition. Isn't that how this is supposed to work? It seems it is just cookie settings and sharing user ID and passwords Making a new Blog post does not create a new forum topic. Shouldn't it? Creating a new catagory in the Blog does not create a new forum group in the bbpress forum. Shouldn't it?
