I am attempting to change the CNAME record for a domain with one and one internet as this is the only was I can get the eShop I am working with to accept the already hosted domain but if I change the CNAME record then this will automaaticly disable the associated email address. This link http://faq.1and1.co.uk/domains/dns_settings/18.html shows the page that is displayed can anyone help me or does anyone have any experienc ewith cname records with one & one.

I have dual screen both home and work and in both cases I have the same proplems take a tyipical adobe program like photoshop, i may be working in one screen with software set to maximise but whenever i want to alter color open a new file create a new doc etc etc etc I end up with the dialog boxes popping up in the ohter screen. Each product has its own quirky version of this kind of behavior eg dreamweaver is quite reasonablely behaved until i start uploading downloading files and indesign plays up in a similar way to ps. Are there any settings i can change to force dialog boxes to open in the same screen as the program its kind of annoying. Using version cs4 in both cases at home I'm running on vista, work running on win 7 but i used to have the same problems on xp too back in the days of cs2.

My title is web designer nothing was ever mentioned about print at the interview and as this is the first time the company (corporate finance) had hired a desiger im getting multiple departmnts wanting my services - perhaps novelty. There are no other designers to ask unfortuantly but worse still when i failed at this mostly based on quality of images even post print i got taken into the boardroom and told how to design by the programer (a nice guy may i add) who started googling for inspiration and explaining the design process. arrgghhhh now that annoyed me! Im cursing my eager attitude now for jumping straight in saying yes i can do this i can do that.

I have always been of the belife that graphic designers and web designers are similar but perfome different roles. For me graphic designers deal with communitive graphics and produce brand identity as well as printed materials like brochures bussiness cards etc technical knowledge therefore will extend to use of print prep. With web design the designer must work with an entirely different set of technical and layout limitations. My point is since starting my web desiger job im asked to do what i would reserve for a graphic designer (brand id and brouchure design ect) but hey my title contains the word dsigner so I should be a able to design everything rigth! I have taken these jobs, enjoyed working on them and produced the best quality work im capable of but is not considederd to be good enought quality print poorley and dont fit conventional brochure standards. How should I handel this, quit whining and learn print design or explain how i feel and that lack of experience is causeing difficulties for me but i have the feeling they wont see my point. Put it this way my print design is about as good as a print designer with no web expereince working on a web site. Im just worried as my probation period could be based on this especialy as i have to get this project done before i can even touch some of the web work. My prob period migth not even get to that point at this rate. Should a web designer expect this kind of work its not like i cant adjust just not in a weekend?

Just started new job as web designer the compant I work for mainly deal with ecommerece and payments and provide bespoke shopping carts or at least for those willing to pay for them. For those not willing to make the investment we also provide a web site in box solution you know those click here click there and here presto you have a fully working site and this is one of the systems im stuck working with. The system is quite frankly naff and having never used such a thing before I dont know of a better version the one used at the moment. Any ideas so i can recomend something easier to work with to the powers that be?

I knew my prospective employer had already seen my online portfolio so i printed and lamininated some of my favorite pieces to take with me and talk about. I relucently left them with the employer well they only cost a few £ to create but this payed off as I was eventualy iunvited back for a second interview and offred the position. I knew the company I am now working for was not made up of design tech types so I felt the printed format presnted in a well organised folder was the best option. A laptop wasnt really an option for me but I think for a web design job you definatly need a good reason for not having a portfolio online. Money, lack of internet access, age or lack or debit cards ect. Best of Luck with your interview Another tip if you are taking printed work dont lovingly gaze at your babies printed on glossy paper forcing your interviewer to crank their neck instead think up side down and give them the best view.

If clients are wanting to stick to their easy software and i have had a client who insisted, then for every WYCIWY might G there will need to be an expert who knows how to fix up their site to look like the pretty picture in the brochure. Imagine the job title 'site builder expert', love it. So easy updates and more control to the client but like anything you get what you pay for and if your going to fork out for an experienced designer to do this for you you may as well go for a custom build.

How about design competition sites like 99 designs, the briefs are realistic even if you never officially enter your design.

My title at work is web designer, mostly i just get funny looks and long silences when I tell ppl what I do(not quite figured out why yet) so depending on mood I change the title a little or explain. My bf's title at work (different studio) is back end web developer which always gets a giggle.

Hi I'm Kerry, I have been lurking around here for a while now so figured it's about time I sign up and join in. So here goes a bit about myself... I'm a freelance web designer but I never really suited the whole 'own boss' thing which is just as well as I have just been offered a job front end designing for a local company. It only took me 18 months to convince someone to hire me since leaving uni yay . TBH I got a verbal offer but I don't think I'm quite believing it until my first day - it's been a tough recession - anyway now I'm just prepping myself for the world of 9-5. When not playing around with code or PS or something I can mostly be found playing sims, reading or shopping oh and starting a new blog too all about visual design for mobiles. looking forward to getting to know u guys
