Just attempting to learn new things my friend. The one question I am often asking myself is "what does this do?". So I find out, useless or not. Thanks for your help

PHP setup
Thanks for the response it is really appreciated. I do understand now how this parameter can cause threats. However, I don't think the server is of interest to any attacker, and correct UNIX security measures are in place. So I guess its ok to keep it on! Thanks again

PHP setup
Hi was wondering if someone could help. Myself and a friend of mine are a little confused as to whether the allow_url_include parameter of the php.ini file uncommented and set to On poses any security threats. As long as the server has been administered with the correct security measures surely it should be ok. But maybe someone here knows more. Thanks in advance

Getting images to stay inside DIV tag.
Actually, some designers actually argue that tables are better than css layouts believe it or not.

Site Design on a Mac
I completely agree, with Pippin62. I've had loads of issues displaying IE versions even rendering in different monitors and screens. IE seems to have the most diverse rendering techniques, almost as if its random. Most things render fine all the time no problems, but there are always these smaller issues IE always sends to crop up.

my first web proposal
Try to find out how long it will take you to fulfil the project and base the cost on that. Don't undersell yourself as that never works. Usually clients tend to have more input during the development process, and usually prefer to be charged less for this input if this is, of course, going to take you longer. Most clients don't understand what can be so hard about a bit of programming or design adjustment lol. Usually you need to try and be as undertechnical as possible with them. Usually, I provide a mock up photoshop design of a website before charging the customer anything. It doesn't take long to mock up a web design in photoshop. Then you can play around with it all you like, bearing in mind your development abilities. Then, once the customer has agreed (in writing, such as e-mail) then process the order at an agreed rate assuming the client has no other input. Hope this helps

Another eye needed
I agree. Dark and luminous green go really well together. Perhaps you should create round cornered edge css blocks with just a thin green outline. That encourages end users to read whats in the box because it stands out more. Just a tip...

IE Formatting
Ok, I cant be absolutely certain. But I've tested this new code on macOS version of IE7, Ubuntu Firefox and Konquerer and it seems to render fine in all. I've also tidied up your code so it validates XHTML and CSS. You can delete the validation icon if you wish. For some reason the forum posts wont allow me to upload .js files.. So you are going to have to copy the following code, paste it into a text file and name it "rollover.js" in the same directory as index.html and twoColFixLt.css. var curimg=0 function rotateimages(){ document.getElementById("slideshow").setAttribute("src", "home/array/"+galleryarray[curimg]) curimg=(curimg<galleryarray.length-1)? curimg+1 : 0 } window.onload=function(){ setInterval("rotateimages()", 2500) } Let me know if you have any further problems index.html twoColFixLt.css

Positioning PHP blocks in CSS
Ok, the code now looks like this <?php srand( microtime() * 1000000 ); $num = rand( 1,3 ); switch( $num ) { <div id-"bannerhold"> <div class="case">case 1 : $bannerimg="bannerblue.png"; $url="index.php";</div> <div class="case">case 2 : $bannerimg="bannergreen.png"; $url="index.php";</div> <div class="case">case 3 : $bannerimg="bannergrey.png"; $url="index.php";</div> </div> } $banner = "<center><a href=\"$url\"> "; $banner.= "<img src=\"$bannerimg\" "; $banner.= "width=\"auto\" height=\"auto\" border=\"0\" >"; $banner.= "</a></center>"; echo( $banner ); ?> I will experiment with the PHP's echo function to see if I can get anywhere

Positioning PHP blocks in CSS
I do understand the simplicity in what you are saying, and I have tried these methods. Unfortunately for some reason the browser renders syntax errors whenever I insert <div> tags in PHP blocks which I found very strange. So really its back to the drawing board. I guess my next question is what is the technique used and the correct syntax for styling these PHP blocks in CSS. Thanks for your responses!

How should i code this?
I think jquery is just a condensed code library for javascript, they do pretty much the same thing. Its really cool though, with small amounts of code you can create cool dynamics with jquery and its worth learning about, in my opinion.

Positioning PHP blocks in CSS
Hi guys, I'm having difficulty aligning a PHP block which contains 3 images, randomly alternating on refresh, to stay within my CSS wrapper. It aligns fine from the left but once the browser is resized, the image seems to inherit the right hand margin, leaving no gap. Where in the PHP code are you able to apply CSS rules so that I can stop this from happening? As you can tell I am new to PHP. I'll will paste my code example maybe someone could tell me, there is a possibility I can resolve it with just a simple line of PHP Cheers! <!-- start of header --> <?php srand( microtime() * 1000000 ); $num = rand( 1,3 ); switch( $num ) { case 1 : $bannerimg="bannerblue.png"; $url="index.php"; break; case 2 : $bannerimg="bannergreen.png"; $url="index.php"; break; case 3 : $bannerimg="bannergrey.png"; $url="index.php"; break; } $banner = "<center><a href=\"$url\"> "; $banner.= "<img src=\"$bannerimg\" "; $banner.= "width=\"auto\" height=\"auto\" border=\"0\" >"; $banner.= "</a></center>"; echo( $banner ); ?>

Comments Form
Hi there, I was wondering if someone could help me. I am trying to create a basic comments form script attaching a PHP script to a HTML web form. I am using the LAMP configuration. I have enabled the mail function in the PHP.ini file on the sendmail_path line for linux so I know my configuration is correct. This is a temporary "localhost" setup which eventually will be posted on an internet server and I just cannot get it to work. Can someone have a look at my code and see where I am going wrong? I would really appreciate anyones help i've been sat thinking about it for days lol. html webform <html> <head> <title>Feedback Form</title> <body> <form action="feedback.php" method="post"> Name:<input type="text" name="username" size="30"> <br> <br> E Mail:<input type="text" name="useraddress" size="30"> <textarea name="comments" cols="30" rows="5"></textarea> <br> <input type="submit" value="send form"> </form> </body> </html> form handler script <?php $username = $_POST['username']; $useraddress = $_POST['useraddress']; $comments = $_POST['comments']; $to = "joe@white-fire.co.uk"; $re = "Website Feedback"; $msg = $comments; mail( $to, $re, $msg ); ?> <html> <head> <title>Message Recieved</title> <body> <h3>Thankyou for your comments</h3> message recieved from <?php echo( $username ); ?> <br> Reply to <?php echo( $useraddress ); ?> </body> </html> php.ini config [mail function] ; For Win32 only. ; SMTP = smtp.streamline.net smtp_port = 25 ; For Win32 only. ; sendmail_from = joe@white-fire.co.uk ; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i"). sendmail_path = -t -i Sorry to bombard you guys with code I know how annoying it is when people do that on forums but like I say, I would appreciate anyone who tries to help
