How do you style/position a div below a menu to show current page
Hey I'm developing my personal portfolio and have been having trouble creating the menu. It's a simple 5 item text menu but I want to highlight the current page with a bar/div below the menu item. You can see what the desire effect that I want on my index at http://calebkingcott.com/ck/3/index.html I've tried many different things and have spent hours on it. The thing is I have no clue on how to achieve this and tutorials I've found only explain how to apply styling to the selected item and not a bar below it. You're help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Caleb

Positioning will not work. Help really appreciated!
Hi I am developing the page design of my website and I having difficulty with the positioning of the main content. Despite using margin-top css, I can't move the content down as the slider is covering it. Also, the content also gets hidden by the footer. Any help would be really appreciated. The page is hosted at http://calebkingcott.com/pagerepair.html Thanks, Caleb

Constructive feedback on my website design
Thanks mantis, some really helpful suggestions. I'll change my html version to html 5, just an oversight. Also, the nav is using the same font as the header but I haven't installed the fonts on the website, I need to do that! Could you explain the second paragraph again? What needs to be repeated on the nav div?

User Area
Hi, does anyone know if there is a service which allows customers of an accountancy firm to login and find out information such as status of work, deadlines e.t.c. Almost like a cms or database where the business updates the data and the user can access that information through a user area on the website. Thanks

Organic search results different when logged in than logged out
Hi, the website I am working on for a small business is the first result for "Ascot accountants" when logged in to any Google accountant but when logged out the result is on the second page. Is there anything I can do to get the result up higher on the organic search when logged out. Thanks

Is my Competitor breaking Google terms and conditions?
Hi, I have nearly finished creating a website for my dad's accountancy business. I have been looking at what competitors have been doing to get at the top of Google. I have typed in many things such as "Ascot accountants", "Accountants in Ascot", "Ascot Accountancy". One website that was at or near the top consistently was http://bit.ly/5tmAy . I have found two things that they have done which seem to be effective but I am not sure that they are allowed. 1. They have a keywords page at accountingpartnership.co.uk/keywords This lists hundreds of keywords so if you type one of those keywords into Google then you will get to the keywords page. I suppose most people who get to that page will click home and will be on the website. 2. When I went on their Google Maps listing here I found that there were links to many blogs. These blogs have the same posts for the same businesses. I know that Google ranks websites on how many links so that should be boosting their position on Google Maps and search. I am not 100% certain that these are against the rules so I am posting this so I can find out. If the first method is not against the terms and conditions then I would be interested in doing that. Thanks

Redesign of website
Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. It has really given me an idea of what I need to do too improve. As for the code @notbanksy, I have just bought a book called build your own website the right way using html & css. It teaches you all the right ways of doing things which suits me perfectly. I think that will help me with my sloppy code I have also just remade the website where I have used div tags and css instead of layers. It seems to work well for me because the white space is expandable and the layers aren't flying everywhere when I make a change. Please check it out at www.kingcott.co.uk/test/divtagtest.html I think a lot of people are not too keen on the mountains. There's no way I am getting rid of them now because my Dad won't let me The text "giving you the support you need for the challenges ahead" is meant to support the image but maybe "at the peak of our profession" is more direct and suitable. I have just spent a few minutes adjusting the site so the text is hopefully more eye-catching. Check it out at http://www.kingcott.co.uk/test/divtagtest2.html It has a totally different feel and I am not sure if I prefer it or not. Please let me know guys which one you prefer. Thanks, Calebk

Redesign of website
Hi guys, thanks for the comments. I am busy implementing some of the changes such as paragraphs and lists. I have tried to convert the Jpegs into Gifs but the image quality gets very bad. Is there anything I can do otherwise I may have to stick with Jpegs. Thanks again

First website, please rate
Hi, before I read this post I had a go at a new design. At the moment I need to change the colours as they clash a little bit but I think I prefer the design. The new design can be found at http://www.freedomcaresolutions.talktalk.net/test2.html I couldn't quite understand why the old design looked too cold but now I have seen your design and my new design I know it will look much better with more colour. The problem is that the business needs to make a motto and take photos of their own so I will have to put them in at a later date. I have tried Gimp before now but I didn't like it much. That was a couple of years ago now so I will look at it again and I will also look at paint shop pro. Let me know what you think of the new design and which one you prefer. The new design is missing a drop shadow but I need to wait until I get a new graphics program until I can learn how to add one. Thanks, Caleb

I did actually try hard but maybe I just made it too simple. have been looking at other care websites like http://www.consultuscare.com/ and http://www.michaelphillipscareagency.co.uk/. maybe I should make my design more like them. Web design might not just be my thing but like you said I am not giving up until I have had a really good go at it. The one problem I am having is that I don't have photoshop, I can only get Microsoft expression design and web. Do you think I should redesign my website or just change the current one? Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, I am teaching myself web design so it is not surprising that the site falls down technically. I got a bit confused about the wrapper with the background edges tiling vertically. Is there an online tutorial where I can learn this. I will take on your feedback and I will improve the website to the best of my ability. I am not aware of any frameset and I did not intentionally make one. Also, what do you mean by the site being complicated. Do you mean how it looks like or it is created complicated. I have made a few adjustments to the design at http://www.freedomcaresolutions.talktalk.net/test.html Thanks for your honest feedback, Caleb
