  5. Hey people As you can see i'm asking a question regarding a very much talked about topic! But my question is pretty much exactly how i phrased in the description. Are there any other methods to resample and image on the fly than the standard GD library tools and imagemagick? The reason i'm asking is i'm trying to develope a script that will upload near any size photo to take away the users need to resize any image themselves. The GD library can only handle photos up to a set size. My current PHP.ini memory_limit is 20MB but my client wants to upload photos which go beyond that. (baring in mind the size of the images are based on Horizontal Pixels x vertical pixels x 4, the 4 being RGBA). Imagemagick is out of the question as the exec() command is barred by the hosting company for security reasons. Hopefully i have provided enough information - The only option is too inquire to the hosting company to get the memory_limit increased but we're trying to remove any other options that may be available to us. I've found a few flash programs but my feeling is they will all use one of the 2 tools already mentioned beneath their snazzy user interface. Is this correct? Thanks for any help in advance Jonny Vickers
  6. Hey people, how is everyone? Got the design for my latest project up to scratch i feel. I'm a newbie compared to some of you guys though so any opinion welcome! Some of the pages arent up and running yet as i still have some coding to do. Forum is actually up and running and being used already! The image gallery is up but very much in its early stages. I guess i'm mainly looking for input into the home page. My Link Thanks
  7. I agree it does look very western! but none the less its good, looking at it maybe you could add some imagery towards the bottom of the page? I dunno add some images to the blog content and im sure it will look awesome. Try it and post back if you can Jonny
  8. hey I like it! the background is nice and the colours tie in with the logo/header very nicely. The intro text maybe alittle bit of a mouthful but that may just be me and the early morning taking its affect You may need to do something with the secondary nav menu at the bottom as its a bit hard to follow. Maybe center thm and put each shop on seperate lines? The main menu's are OK - perhaps if the other buttons to the left of the one you are pressing didnt jump around they would be really good. Try it without the change in padding and maybe just have the colour change. Or you could also play with the style of the other buttons aswell - what i mean is - when you hover one button the button to the left has its right padding reduced the same amount as what the padding increased on the button you pressed. Do the same on the right side aswell. They will be other methods but this shouldn't be too hard to implement. I'm not the pserson to answer your first question so someone else will hopefully be able to fill you in on that one. Hope some of this helps Jonny Vickers
  9. If anyone could pick out a tutorial that would get the job done i'd be more than happy also
  10. Hey guys, hope you're all have a good day I've been searching the internet high and low for a suitable script for the project im working on. The part of the system in question has to allow a sports club photographer upload photos to the webspace. All i wanted was the base upload script which would create thumbnails on the fly. I prefere to do the coding i'm comfortable with myself so want to program the mysql parts and gallery parts myself. Any helpwould be fantastic Thankyou in advance Jonny Vickers
  11. Hmm yeah it looks good from my point of view... but im not trying to find anything on the page, should someone who actually wants to find something look at the page, they may end up with a head ache trying to find it. Sometimes simple is best.
  12. Sorry, the folders i have are htdocs, logfiles and private. I currently store all my files in the htdocs folder as (unless i have missed something) this is where the index.php file is stored. I currently have my db connect file stored there aswell. Could you give me another quick example to show how it would work with the setup i have. Thanks in advance, Jonny.
  13. As my gran used to say about clothing... 'Red and Green must never be seen!'
  14. Hey guys, i'm busy working on a site for a friend which involves me needing to allow for members of his sports club to add personal details. I need the information they upload to be as secure as possible but tbh don't really know what i can do other than encrypt the data before adding it to the database. What standards should i follow in securing this data? Any input would be helpful Thanks, Jonny
  15. Woop woop! I'm in, shame i entered a few days late though!
  16. Hey people, just stumbled upon this forum and it seems you have quite a cool community growing here. I'd imagine im a slight amateur compared to most of you here however im still learning and at university where this year i'll be concentrating my efforts on webdesign. Hopefully i'll be able to make it into webdesign professionally when i'm finished (long way to go!). How is everyones summer going? finding much time away from the computer to soke up the sun? (should you be lucky enough to get any! ) Jonny
