August 6, 200917 yr Would appreciate your comments about this site. Had gone for non-corporate, quirky but professional feel. Horizontal scrolling is not popular and I have included the button scrollers, but not sure if they are prominant enough. Something missing, but can't put my finger on it. Thanks again. http://www.nine9design.co.uk/windrush/
August 6, 200917 yr I'm a big fan of horizontal scrolling sites You have lots of nice photo's on the page which stand out which is cool.. Did have an issue though.. when the page is "restored down" the logo is cut off, and as I have my screen set to a certain size it cuts off almost half the "windrush" text in the logo straight away. Also at first I didn't notice that it was really a scrolling site, there was not indictation really that it was a scrolling site, other then the fact that there was a scroll bar at the bottom and you said in this thread. To make it more noticeable on the main page that it scrolls you could do something similar to http://deanoakley.com/ where he has an arrow showing the direction of flow? Also I would consider spacing it out a bit and using a smooth scroll jquery function, which scrolls the page rather then jumping, this allows the viewer to see that it scrolls across. (Example of smooth scroll: http://demos.flesler.com/jquery/scrollTo/ and get it here: http://plugins.jquery.com/project/ScrollTo) By spacing it out you could make the content boxes wider, eliminated the need to scroll on the text sections. I personally don't like scrolling within divs up to you of course though Hope that helps
August 6, 200917 yr Author Its odd that you lost the logo. Its optimized for 1024x768 and up. The main body is horizontally centred. I guess the js buttons don't cut it then. Thanks alot for you comments.
August 11, 200917 yr You need to use an alternative method for navigation. Javascript is a nono, because your menu doesnt work when it's disabled. And bear in mind, search engine spiders visit your website with javascript disabled. It won't be able to index your site. Use plain text, spider-friendly links.
August 16, 200917 yr some nice images, the site looks good. I would change the nav though. Keep it going sideways but use a better script.
August 18, 200917 yr Author Thanks for your comments. I think you have missed the point. There is no navigation. Only one page. That's it. I use java to get to where I want to go. Google will index the whole page as is. Agree the scrolling is a bit clunky. Need a smoother scroller.
August 24, 200917 yr Your website looks quite unique. I like the look and feel of your site. I think if you can leave more space under the logo with the main content will look better. If your site is target on people with disability or have lots of accessbility to obey of course make the website as less script as possible. Actually, I don't think use JavaScript for navigation is a big nono. People always say when the JavaScript is turn off, this part and that part will not working. So But I was wondering how many people actually turn off the JavaScript. For example, nowadays, it's very common to use Jquery and other popular script libraries rather than use flash, if you turn of the JavaScript. The page will look quite boring plus I am sure lots of functionalities will stop working. As long as you provide the alt and title for images and links I am sure search engine will still be able to picked up.
August 24, 200917 yr Hmm yeah it looks good from my point of view... but im not trying to find anything on the page, should someone who actually wants to find something look at the page, they may end up with a head ache trying to find it. Sometimes simple is best.
