  1. Submitting to dmoz was considered as important for SEO but today it is not the case; recently it had some technical problem so for nearly 4-6 months they were not accepting new submission, some say" they have lost their old data " whatever... their importance has degraded
  2. No not at all; Instead it helps you for getting in serp faster, While submitting, try to submit your site with different keywords, description and title as your anchor text. Search for most appropriate section for your site; eg if your site is hosting related then try to submit it at : computers/internet/hosting.

    I think to give it a button impression you can use Adobe-Photoshop tool and use a bevel effect to make it look like a button.
  5. Yes, keyword rich content first..... You can redesign and reedit your page without affecting SE ranking if you are serious about SEO but if you don't have good content then there is possibility of lacking behind in Search ranking... IMO " Content is the King "
  6. A text link will give benefit in serp for your keyword used in the link whereas a eye catchy banner will be attracted if placed at proper place, both have their importance it's up to you for what advantage you are looking for
