  1. Just keep searching for forums, directories and blogs that relate to your targeted keywords or georgraphic location. Also, you can write articles and upload them to articles databases. People will download them and add them to their sites and you can get quite a few backlinks like that.
  2. This is the description being displayed now. Seems Google's index has updated since you made your original post. "Surrey wedding photographer Tony Hart is a specialist in reportage and photojournalism covering Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex, Kent, ..."
  3. So long as the content isn't duplicated then there is some value in doing this if you use domain names that contain targeted keywords. However, any benefit needs to be offset against the extra cost in terms of time and money that numerous sites require. I personally think it is better to focus on promoting one domain name unless your company operates specialist services in multiple niches.
  4. If you create a few backlinks to the site for the bots to follow than generally it only takes a few days for the site to be indexed by Google. The last site I built took 3 days to index after I added a link to it from my twitter page.
  5. Local optimisation can be achieved by adding the locality to your on-site content in descriptions, headings and general content. Also by creating backlinks from local directories and forums. I have a lot of experience in this area as my business of very focussed on Surrey based customers. I have had great success optimising for local searches. We do offer very affordable SEO services if you need our help.
  6. site:seemenus.co.uk shows that Google has indexed 13 pages of this site so it is indexed. What keyphrases are you trying to appear on?
  7. Page rank updates only occur once a quarter - the last one quite recently - in June I think it was. So keep link building and be patient.
  8. Don't submit to directories that aren't topically or regionally related in some way. They will simply generate irelevant traffic if at all and push up your bounce rate.
  9. Typical charge for Adsense campaign management is between 5-10% of budget. Of course if their budget is very low and they have hundreds of ad variations you might need to charge more.
  10. Create some backlinks to pages you want indexed.
  11. It will help reduce your bounce rate. If you choose your anchor text carefully it may even benefit your SERPs for the search phrases you choose for your anchor texts.
  12. We have been writing complex quotations system for the life assurance industry for the last 10 years. Please feel free to contact us via our website if you need our help.
  13. Exactly! When you open more than one tag you must close them again in the same order (well opposite order you could say) you opened them.
  14. Use either GET or POST to store the values the user types in the first page, pass them to the student or teacher php pages and then pass them on to the original page and write a script to populate the appropriate values.
  15. Do you have any experience designing applications with complex functionality? If not I would go for the simplest solution at every turn. Just make sure you have your logic clearly defined before you start coding.
  16. Thanks very much for all the comments so far. All very valid points and when I have time I will definately make some changes and experiment with some completely new ideas. I must say I'm very impressed with this forum, the quality of comments and the busy-ness of it.
  17. I agree it's the topical nature of the directory that is important. If you are optimising for a local business then adding backlinks to local directories is a sure fire way to improve your SERPs for searches phrases relating to localities.
  18. It's very impressive. I wish I could do illustrations like you can but I'm from a technical background and have zero artistic talent. I'm sure you'll be nailing those conversion with that site. It illustrates very nicely your skills and experience. Good luck with the site and I might even be able to put some business your way at some point.
  19. The text isn't black it's just hidden unless the user places their mouse over the link that says "towns in our area". I wanted to do it like that because the list of towns at the bottom would spoil the look of the page. Thanks for the feedback though. I did consider the risk of it being viewed as black hat but my belief is that because the text is displayed by a common user action it should be OK from Google's viewpoint.
  20. I still use Dreamweaver because it saves me time typing table tags etc. But I then correct the markup it generates once the page is done by hand. Once you 'shape' the markup correctly you can easily spot missing end tags and the like.
  21. Make sure your markup is W3C compliant. http://validator.w3.org/
  22. You might get some clues as to what the issue is if you check your page using the W3C validation service. If your page is W3C compliant it should display the same on all browsers. http://validator.w3.org/
  23. Hi all, I'm hoping some of you might be kind enough to give me your opinion on something. I recently redesigned this website http://www.surreypcsupport.com . Yeah, I know the inner pages are a little plain but really it's the home page I'm asking about. I made a post on another forum I use and the feedback was good and bad. One poster suggested that duo-tone (only two colours) was too plain for a sales page and that I should add some more colour. Question is, which colour? Anything bright will look a little out of place in my opinion. What do you think? Another poster said it looked like I'd downloaded a template and changed it for my purposes. Trust me, I never use templates (they are rarely W3C compliant) and this is all my own work. Do you think it looks like a template? I'm not looking for feedback on the technical quality of the site, just the look and feel. Any comments are welcomed, good or bad so thanks in advance.
