I was wondering how i can submit my websites in to the domain for indexing. The reason is that my hosting provider offers it when you pay them but i'm not willing to do this.

 

Any suggestions? also can anyone send me in the right direction to a tutorial or article or advise me directly regarding SEO for a local small business?

Don't submit it directly to search engines, this generally gets you stuck in the 'sandbox' which takes longer than if they naturally find your website.

 

Try submitting your website to a few good directories to encourage search engines to pick it up.

 

Also, just a check (i found out someone doing this recently, they offered SEO as an extra service ontop of the websites they built, they'd been putting meta tags into the site so search engines wouldn't index).

 

So if the sites been built by someone else, just make sure they've not been cheeky (or even your host could be being cheeky).

Good recommendations by bocaj, personally I would invest this 'down' time (time not indexed) into ensuring the site is clean coded (passes validation checks via W3.ORG) as well as has a XML sitemap which is submitted to all search engines.

Try to get links pointing to your site, you can build more backlinks on dofollow sites, blogs, forums etc. If the backlinks are from frequently crawled sites - the bots will find your links and crawl your site as well.

Submitting sitemaps ensure that bot can have all the links at a time and can crawl according to the links

fyi on sitemaps, havent tested this myself but... some times sitemaps can hurt your site as you are give your pages an importance factor so you may unwillingly be unranking your site...

 

just go to digg and digg your site. it will get indexed, but what are you going to do once it is?? PPC?

but to just get it indexed quickly, built 100 - 200 links quick to get listed.

This is complete unnecessary though and if the links aren't relevant, it will do you no good at all.

 

One quick way to get indexed is to just submit your site to Digg. That will usually get you indexed within 24 hours.

Obtaining links from sites that are relevant should go without saying.

 

Also getting links from digg will help you getting indexed, but it wont help your future seo compaign.

I suppose you need to ask yourself "Do I just want to get Indexed in the search engines? Or be seen in the search engines?"

 

There is no point in having a great site if no one is going to see it.
