i want to dive into the use of either figma or Penpot. 

 

well some friends of me - have told me that they use figma - and that they are very very satisfied with it. Note: they even run this on Mobile-phone.  The main advantage i see here - is that the design work can be colaboratively extended  - in other words: if i work on a template - i can ask others what they think about it - and besides this - i can furthermore invite them into the process. 

questoin: did you ever thought of going into this direction - did you ever muse bout starting with such a tool - either figma or penpot, which is the free and open-source alternative to figma.

well - i found out some of the main-aspects - AND   I would be glad if i here a little fruitful discussion and idea sharing would take place. 

 

For graphic designers, Figma and Penpot are especially relevant when it comes to collaborative design, prototyping, and client/team communication.

• Figma stands out thanks to its massive community, extensive design resources (templates, UI kits, plugins), and strong adoption across the design industry. For designers working in mixed teams (e.g. with developers or product managers), Figma is considered the industry standard.

• Penpot, on the other hand, appeals to designers who value openness, flexibility, and data control. It is a sustainable choice for groups that want to manage their design assets independently of commercial vendors. Its self-hosting option can also be attractive for agencies or educational institutions.

Well - i am a  friend of Open Source - so i think i just would start with Penpot. - but at the end problably would land in figma -since this is told to be the industry-standard with much much more options and flexibility.

You use whatever tool is most suited to the task.

I've used Figma a couple of times and didn't like the results. And disagree with it being the industry standard. It's just one of many available tools.

How much do you need to collaborate?

For collaborative design and prototyping, choose the tool based on your needs. Figma is great if you want extensive resources, templates, and easy collaboration across teams. Penpot is ideal if you prefer open-source, self-hosting, and full control over your design assets. Start with the one that matches your priorities and workflow, and switch later if needed.
