How does your job process look like?

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to the Web Design freelance business and I was wondering if any freelancer here would be willing to share how their process of selling a website looks like step by step. From finding a client, through planning the project, doing SEO and finally showing the client the finished work.

You are asking a lot.

Everything begins with marketing. Once you understand this everything else falls into place. There are thousands of marketing books, videos, tutorials and course you can take to learn your craft.

It's not a lot if you're able to describe the process in brief. All I want is to get a general image, not a tutorial.

Market your services to find clients, discuss the project to get the specifications, determine your SEO strategy, create content, plan the site structure, code the site, launch on your own staging site,  update after feedback, hand over the site files.

But as always, the devil is in the details. Each project will be different, there is no 'to do' list. In the list above there are hundreds of steps missing.

Go buy a book on marketing - it will answer so many of your questions.

Marketing is your key to a successful site...in today's digital world you must ensure the marketing you create all 'connects' and that your brand is across all the relevant social media etc., - so  make sure your site has a presence on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook Business, Instagram, Google Shopping (if eCommerce) etc., with the consistent messaging - then ensure in your marketing that the messages you want to be found for appear in your SEO,..meta descriptions, image descriptions, Alt text on images etc., etc.

I have helped site market themselves this way with success, it is easy enough to do yourself if you are disciplined in making sure all of your marketing is connected and relates to each other.

good luck
