My new site

Featured Replies

hey,

this is my new site www.nightskywebdevelopment.com I decided to make this site as I've created webpages for a couple of companies (through friends/family contacts) and am in the process of creating a website for a band. So i decided i would create this site in order to try and get more companies to design webpages for.

The site is still under construction and nothing is finalized yet so I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could review it for me and give me some advice, thanks.

It starts halfway down the page in Firefox.

The black text doesn't stand out enough on that background.

ohk, i'll have to fix that up. Do you mean the black text in the banner?

EDIT: I just checked in firefox and it's got problems lol. I didn't test much in firefox as I was using IE. In IE the content text is white so it is readable and it starts at the top of the page so i'll have to fix that up.

Test, check, test, check and test some more on at least 5 browsers all the time.

IE is pants.

i would agree. u gotta keep testing it, Firefox is just as important as IE. As with regards to the site it still needs alot of work, im viewing it in firefox and the text is times new roman, centered and black. it looks awful. I suppose if that was to be sorted u might have the start of an ok site. Its still very very basic though. Just out of a matter of interest how much would you charge for a 6 page static website?

All you can do is keep practicing and developing your skills. Good luck

in IE it is how it is supposed to look but i am going to stop focussing on coding etc. for the next month maybe and spend that whole time learning photoshop so that afterwards i can make much better sites.

(maybe $100? not fully sure yet lol.) One company i am designing for at the moment 'Stars and Stripes Autographics' are paying me $300 (i only expected $100 max) for a 5 page site (is static exept for a rotating flash gallery they wanted)

any more help/advice on how to improve my design and skills would be awesome

Hey Ben

Just one quick thing, the text on the site starts out really good but when you say 'because as many of you

may know' it dosen't sound very professional.

If you find a way to restructure it so it sounds like 'because of the increasing prices, web development can be quite expensive, especially for small businesses.'

I'm not a pro but it just sounds a bit better restructured, other then that it's good :)

Download the latest version of Opera, it is by far the most standards compliant browser. That means that if you can get it to look good in Opera it should look good in Firefox, Safari and IE8.

You'll still have to test it on IE7 and IE6 as, has been mentioned before, they're pants and dont interpret correct code correctly. So you may have to add or modify your code to make sure that it is still standards compliant but also in a way that IE will display it correctly.
