Website For Video Tutorials Help (& build) Required

Featured Replies

Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹and nice to meet you all.

I create video tutorials, some of which I make available only to people working in my trade in an attempt to protect the industry somewhat. The ones for the trade I have unlisted on Youtube and have a couple of membership tiers on Patreon to be able to access them. The more simple videos I just post publicly on my Youtube channel for all to see. My channel is monetised.

The above method has been the easiest solution for me whilst I built up a body of work but I've always known that whilst they're unlisted on Youtube, it doesn't take a genius to work out that simply sending someone the link will allow them to watch the video for free. So now's the time to find a better solution and the plan has always been to have a simple website with about me, contact/socials, a small amount of product for sale and a video tutorials page (I envisage that some will be greyed out to non trade members).

I also need to be able to screen trade member applicants so need a submission form.

I'm not unfamiliar with website design but it's been a while and quite frankly I don't have the time so it'll be something I start and never finish I'm sure. So my question is twofold;

a) What would you recommend is the best, simplest solution for what I would like, particularly the video paywall aspect? I believe Vimeo may be a better host for the trade videos that need embedding behind a paywall?ย

b) Who would you recommend I approach to build this for me?......... or I'm sure there are people here that could do this sort of thing in their sleep.

ย

Many thanks

Welcome to the forums

I've built a few similar type of sites over the years using ExpressionEngine or Craft CMS's, generally where site members have various levels of access, i.e. "Free" (limited set of videos), "Basic" (selected range of videos) and "Premium" (all videos).

Vimeo is a good option for protected videos, they allow you to control where your videos are accessed, i.e. only via your web site domain name or IP address. That way you can restrict access behind a paywall or login.ย

Any decent web developer should be able to help you, perhaps do a search for people local to you so you can meet face to face if needed. I'd always recommend writing up a complete list of specifications you need.

Hi @BlueDreamerย thanks for your reply and apologies for the delay responding. I'm glad I was on the right track with Vimeo. I have a basic account with them already that I haven't used yet so will go and investigate further.

I've also taken your advice and contacted a local web developer for a quote so hopefully I'm on the right track now.

Thanks again
