Even though I've been in the industry commercially for over 5 years, this is my first sole design for a client as a freelancer!

 

This is my first design draft - I've been given really nothing to work on, no colours, logo etc - only thing the client likes is the 'grungy swirls' that are popular.

 

 

Ignore the white space at the bottom, it will be cropped at the footer and also, the header bar will be 100% across the screen with the content constrained in an 'open' 960 container to give the effect of 100% site.

 

Would appreciate any feedback before I show her this first design (I normally do 2-3).

I like the style, I like the choice of colors you have chose, purple always seem to bring an sense of royalty which is has done.

 

Maybe you could move the "Would you like our free news letter" just Above the product search maybe then you have have all the sub links and sub sections in one container so to speak, then you can move the logo and the text to be in the center of the page.

 

with the special offer image I would not leave it in the middle of the page it messes up with the balance of the page maybe replace where the logo is now that might be a nice look.

 

All in all I think its pretty good well done

I was definately going to put the newsletter sign up exactly where you said - just ran out of time tonight to do it - but thanks, confirmed what I was thinking.

 

With the Special Offer, that will only be on the home page - not quite sure about replacing where the logo is? I assume you mean the 'swirly thing' (technical term!). I'll have a play around with it and see what I can change!

no 'glass' this time though, gentle gradients!

 

I did try the glass again to be honest as I thought it would fit the 'gemstones' feel - didnt look very good though.

Thanks Helen - it really gives me a lot of confidence to get good feedback from places like this as I've never considered myself a designer - or thought I ever could be. When you work in a company and the inhouse designer is very good, kinda knocks your confidence and you give up.

However I absolutely despise Trebuchet, I can just about stand it as a body font, but not in this case! You want something flowy, elegant, like Caflisch Script (can't spell it!) or similar.

The customer loves the design (thankfully), but has asked to see an alternative and I'll try that font out.

Wow, i jus checked and I actually spelt it right!

The client loved the design, but also wanted to see something else so she had a choice!

 

Here are the others - which is really the same design with a twist.

 

 

 

Not sure if they are as good as the first, but I was overwhelmed by the feedback from you guys
