a site i made 6 years ago for a local fishing club for retired blokes on a very low budget (around 150 euros if i remember) has stopped working. It's built on cmsmadesimple but it's never been updated since 1.10.3 (probably the same version that i originally installed). looks like it means  jumping through lots of hoops to do incremental upgrades and fix things that have changed  in the core  templating system so I'm thinking for such a  simple site i should just do a quick wordpress install and throw the content in it - at least then it would be respsonsive. the budget is next to nothing and it's more of a favour to the old fishing guys so they can carry on:)

no form needed or any email associated with the domain name (contacts are through individuals gmail addresses etc)
8 pages or so of content. simple picture gallery and news on the frontpage somewhere. any recommendations for themes? even the standard 2017 or whatever it is would probably be fine - just looking to change a few colours, add logo and content and that's it.    

 

Wordpress is probably overkill for an 8 page site. Have you thought about installing a fresh new copy of CMSMS and copying the content across?

thanks, that could be a smarter way. when you say copy the content across do you mean just  copy-paste the content into a new template? or actually try to import the old content in some way?? the old site  isn't even properly responsive. 

the other thing is that I've used CMS made simple once, 6 years ago and my knowledge of it is nearly as bad as that of Wordpress  At work the  devs use processwire and the company we have merged with (well became part of) uses Wordpress and Modx (eugh!) so was thinking if i use  wordpress it might be easier to solve any problems i come across. 

i'll have a look at cms made simple again in the meantime
