Wonder if any of you guys has come across something good?

Quicktime can do screen recording. It's a little known feature.

 

 

The gif can be made in PS or AfterEffects by exporting out frames from the video.

aTube Catcher is very good for this purpose.

I use this when making tutorials for clients. It's quick, easy, HD and outputs are often much smaller than that of competing softwares, it's also free.

 

I don't do much giffing sorry so can't help you there.

I use http://www.cockos.com/licecap/

 

for quick screen demo's etc.
