Hi, I'm new to SEO so I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help.

 

I've been running my business website now for 6 weeks, I've never been getting that many organic hits through search engines, but I was appearing on page 6 of Google for my main industry localised keywords, "Web Design Rotherham" and page 3 for "Rotherham Web Design", however 3 or 4 days ago I suddenly dropped off those pages, and I don't seem to be listed at all in the results, I even went through the first 30 pages of search results and I wasn't listed anywhere, coincidently it was the same day I verified my Google My Business account, but I don't know if thats related.

 

So my main question is does anyone know why I'd suddenly drop out of Google rankings, I've looked in my Google Webmaster Tools, there's no errors or warnings, I've done a site: search and all my pages are listed and indexed, so I'm not sure what the cause is, one other thing is that I haven't subbmited an XML site map to Google, but I'm hopefully going to get that sorted today, just need to check how to create one!

 

As said, I've new to SEO, I've read about the basics, but there's a lot I read that I don't really understand, a lot of the results on page 1 are just listing websites (For example Yell) and actual web design jobs, rather than web design agencies, so the long term plan is to hopefully get onto that first page, but I'm unsure of the best way to do that, especially when I've suddenly dropped out of the result listings!

It can take a long time for a new site to become established, you are probably still indexed but it takes time for Google to give your site any sort of value.

A few questions spring to mind;

 

1. Has the top 50 serps dramatically changed for the term? E.g. a major shuffle for the term? If the top 10 are significantly different then there's a flux on the term.
2. Have you been grabbing back links? Often a sub 50 score is due to overcooking anchor texts on inbound links.

It's possible from initial launch you got a boost but when each of the 'ranking' crawlers settled down you might simply not have the calibre to compete vs the other top 50. This generally happens to newer sites.

The website is http://www.greenfroginteractive.co.uk - As I said I'm new to SEO, but I'm slowly getting there I think.

 

The website went public in the first week of May, and I've had Adwords running and Bing Ads running till I hit my limit, and also got webmaster tools set up on both search engines, within 3 weeks of going live I was on page 6 and page 3 for the keywords mentioned above, but in the last few days I've suddenly disappeared of the chart.

The top 10 at least looks like it has done for a few weeks, I've been checking every couple of days for the past week or 2 to see how I'm performing, my main target audience is Rotherham, where I live, and they're the keywords I'm targetting most, I've looked through the top 10 pages on Google a few times to check out the competition, and the most of them are websites like Yell, listing directories, jobs, rather than actual design agencies.

 

As for link backs, I've added my site to a few business listings, and a few web designer listings, but other than that I'm not sure who or where else I should target.
