Recently, I came to know a news in which it was mentioned that Google is going to roll out his new algorithm in April 2015, according to which Google will gave higher ranks to those sites which are mobile friendly. I am curious to hear what web masters and e-store owners think about that.

I think it is only unfair for this to be a ranking signal and the ranking should be niche specific.
For our industry for example, mobile traffic is between 6% to 15% at peak. I don't think people are buying web hositing, server space, dedicated IPs and domains from their iphones.

That would be the same for many niches and industries I believe, especially eCommerce.

But now you have to go invest time and money to become mobile - friendly or you will drop in the rankings.

Yes, I agree with your point of view but we have to accept this update to rank better. Although, its hard to accept.

Been aware of this for a while, it's very good news to help move the web platform forward. Our UI's should be device and somewhat content agnostic.

...and don't we know it! Since Google started rolling this out I've had a steady stream of clients wanting to go responsive, that'll keep me busy for a while to come

Google keeps giving them reasons to upgrade their old and dated software, there doing us a big favour for us. Maybe not so much for old time developers who haven't yet adopted responsive design, but that's the nature of our industry, evolve with the times or face extinction.
