For those of you in the know about seo (Ryme intended) how well do you think I have optimised my page, if indeed I have at all. Can you check out this link (This is in a temp location ofcourse) and see if I have at least got the basics correct.

I am no seo expert, it depends what you want to be found in searches for.

In your case I would probably go for "International city church Doncaster".

 

The first entry in the meta tag description and keywords would be the above phrase, the title would be the above phrase and your h1 would be the above phrase(I would also try and style my h1 in your external style sheet). h2 tag would be similar eg Doncasters international city church.

 

Also maybe change your page names to something like

 

churchleaders.php

churchteam.php

churchvision.php

churchdream.php

churchstory.php

churchbelieve.php

churchsaying.php

churchprotection.php

churchstructure.php

 

Finally just make sure you have good content.

 

As I said before I am no seo expert, and hopefully Eggman will come along and give you better advice.

This is confusing me. I am using FF, I think it is 2 if not 1 and it works fine for me and all the content is displaying fine (other than a small problem with the news panel)

 

The links are in white at the bottom but they are not hidden as they are on a grey background and are there because a searchbot would struggle or even fail to spot the links in the dropdowns and therefore fail to index all my pages. This is not an attempt to trick the search engines and they are there for all to see.

 

I have done a vlidation check on the page and it is fine.

 

Firefox seems to be a problem for alot of users and designers.

Don't hide text. Create a sitemap page and link to all your pages from that and stick a link to your sitemap in the footer of every page. Spiders can crawl links in lists so your menu is OK.

I'm not hiding text! You can see the links. There is no white text on any white background. The css background may be white, but the div element picture behind the white links is dark grey. so everyone is supposed to see them. You are obviousely seeing it different from most people with your firefox version, but if you view it through i.e for example, then you will see what I mean.

 

As for validation, I am aware of the two invalide items, but I have left them in so as to display the heading correctly in my ff. If I make the H1 and H2 headings validate, they do not display correctly in my ff for some reason.????

You followed the basic rules and have got all your meta tags optimized.

 

You could rename your pages to something in the line of

 

international_city_church_doncaster_leaders.php

or

iccd_leader.php

 

( It purely depends on what words you want optimised)

 

Other things you could do is submit your page to Google maps under Churches in Doncaster and have a link back to your page.

I'm sure you could think of other community web sites that you can post a link to ( Which should be related to your area).

My site fully validates now. So what is going on with firefox 2? This is causing me to have a aheadache. People keep telling me that firefox doesn't display it correctly and I don't know how to solve it.

 

Is there anyone who can help. The site is validated and ready to roll. but I don't want any cross browser issues.

On the background issue... when I went into your site I too got nothing - I have FF2.0.0.14 (probably!) - it's the index1.php that's really screwy - the index.php (by clicking on home) is merely broken (layout shunts to the right).

 

As for SEO? From my point of view it's impossible to say if your site is optimised without a good understanding of what it's objective is, who is it's audience and what would they be looking for, what each page does and who it appeals to, what are the landing pages for different kinds of people, how will your search strategy integrate with other efforts... and lots more info like that. Meta tags are a doddle after that!

Just some things to think about - it's not meant to sound like a lecture - more just things you might like to consider when optimising your site.

Still no dice. Nothing below the header shows except for a thin blue line.

Fast Michaels, click on "help", then "about mozilla firefox" on your FF, and it will tell your version.

I am using ff3, I checked like you said. Yes that is right the two Headings are all over the place which is a result of getting the page to validate. It fully validates now but these heading are out of place, but everything is perfect in IE
