My art portfolio website - finally finished.

I had kinda left the galleries half complete when i ran out of time to work on it, but I have finished it now, updated most of it and done a lot of work into making it a bit more friendly for non-broadband users.

So, tell me what you think:

I've had a quick look (will try for a more detailed critique later) but in short: The site looks great visually. However, if your are offering your services as a web designer, then stating which browsers your site works in is a big no-no. One of the most important skills a web designer has is building pages that work for all current browsers. That means IE6 & IE7 as well as 'browsers that work'... ;)

Ahh yes - i put that comment in a long time ago in a spate of anger at IE, have actually long fixed whatever issue that was. Thanks for bringing that to my attention :)

Nice design but if let me point out a couple of things that got my attention:

The navigation is created by javascript however i see no reason why to do that when you can do the same with css in fewer lines.

This brings me to the second point: javascript. If I turn JS off i cannot browse the content within the 'me' section. If you don't offer an alternative then notify your users with a <noscript> tag to turn on JS.

If you take a look at the lime colour highlight on the 'arch' page you can clearly see that the white text is hard to read.

but apart from these, nice concepts you got there :)

You're 100% right, it can be done in far fewer lines with simply just CSS. Unfortunately i set up the navigation (and all the fixes around its many problems) such a long time ago, its ingrained into the design :S I dont have the heart to go through it all and redesign it. I learnt a few months ago about using just css to create the hover/change state effect, so any future websites would only have that.

Ive added a warning bar using noscript, for when javascript is disabled, but im not quite sure what i should do with regards to hiding/reformatting the content of the Me page (and for that matter the galleries, because they go to pot when JS is off too). I dont know if this is *bad* to say as a webdesigner, but id much rather the viewer had javacsript compatibility before viewing my site rather than my having to make multiple fixes.

Some of the art is cool but the site is very claustrophobic. Open it up, enlarge those images ... and update your date.

Thanks for your comment bout my art :) I think i can see where you're coming from about it being claustrophobic, but im really keen on that design for my personal website.
