March 23, 201412 yr Hello everyone! I've had this debate with my peers and friends and wanted to reach out to you guys to get your feelings. The argument I've made in past is that SEO has (in my opinion) a shelf life of approximately 4-5 years. My stance is, SEO is to most an unknown thing; similar to when web design first started. As people over the years get exposed to SEO it will almost become second nature. Where people will design content, websites, video etc... with SEO taken into consideration. What are your thoughts? Do you feel that SEO has a certain shelf life outside 5 years? Love to here your opinion. Thank you!
March 23, 201412 yr As long as there is search and content optimisation, SEO will exist. Unknown to most; who falls under this umbrella, the general public? Designers, content creators and web developers always take SEO into some form of consideration.
March 25, 201412 yr That's just the very basic on-page, what about the continued development and growth of the website, and its content? Simply covering all on-page factors isn't enough for a website to hold its own over long periods of time. SEO just evolves. All the while you have people searching for content, content marketers will be there to optimise content to achieve the best results. Currently, brand recognition, content sharing and a solid social media presence are all ways of engaging in off page SEO.

The sad thing is there is already a growing number of businesses that only have a social page as their web presents and they are starting to do well out of it. Thememing social pages may be a direction for some to take if this gains any more momentum. A growing market is already there, professional themes are not readily available to the masses yet. IMO
March 31, 201412 yr I dont think SEO has any end .Big companies still need to promote their sites on web.LL
March 31, 201412 yr It depends on what kinds of SEO techniques you are talking about - certainly attempts to 'game' search engines to give you higher rankings have a very short shelf life, much less than 5 years in my experience, and may very well hurt you in the long term. My understanding is that the best way to get good search rankings, once you've got all your meta tags and site maps properly sorted, is to have really good content on your site that is frequently updated, and to have people talk about and link to your site on social media. How much of that is down to us, as designers and developers, to do for our clients is an interesting question.
