I am very happy with the site but they also have an offer of 2G hosting for $20 every year, reduced to $20 because they built the site. Am completely lost with regard to hosting, I have a retail site with about 500 products. I understand and don't believe there is such a thing as unlimited hosting. I want to know if this is cheap enough and big enough for what I need?
March 13, 201313 yr If you're running an ecommerce website, I'd recommend you invest in more for your hosting, simply because ecommerce websites typically use more resources, especially when you consider you have 500+ products listed on your website.
March 13, 201313 yr Agreed. You'll need to invest a little with so many products. Not worked with a large ecommerce site as such, but so far, Tsohost has been the best host for me so far. Their speed and customer service are second to none (google the reviews). Not sure if they have a package that would be suitable but it can't hurt to look.

Can your customers pay online with this hosting (SSL certificate for customer purchasing) Is it PCI Compliant? Is it easy to export the entire site if you wanted to take it elsewhere? What are the disaster recovery measures in place if you are depending on your website for income? (How often is it backed up) Is it NOT hosted on an oversold/sold as unlimited server? Is it hosted in the same place/country as your primary target audience? Who do I call outside business hours if there is a problem? (Better not be the designer, you want to go direct to the host) Those are just a few things you need to know. If it passes all those, and your happy, then all is good.
March 13, 201313 yr I'd stay away from anyone offering hosting as cheap as this. Ask yourself this… you may need support, so would someone be happy to spend time supporting you for any issues at $20 per year. I would say that would be like 1 hour of support every year. Either they wont make any money, OR they wont be giving very good support. And you need support for hosting. Good support. Things happen with websites, servers and emails, and when they do you want to turn to someone who 1) knows their stuff and 2) wont have a low limit to the time they spend supporting you For personal sites £5 per month I think is OK for the minimum, and thats with budget companies like 1and1, Fasthosts etc. who are known not to provide good support, but then its a personal site so not so much of an issue. For business sites you want as much uptime as you can with fast response, I would not use budget companies like 1and1, Fasthosts etc. but use a better company, and their cost may be nore such as £20 pm say (these figures are guides as everyone is different). March 14, 201313 yr Have you searched for reviews of 2G hosting to see if what they offer has been reviewed by others and if so then this might answer your question Cheap does not mean rubbish service, yes with some companies it can mean this but it depends on the company. You can have companies that you pay £100's each month and the service is rubbish because they are selling something that is overloaded with poor support. Just my take on your question
