September 20, 201213 yr How do you guys handle change requests from clients during implementation on the site? Do you guys sign off on psd/fireworks drafts first then let the client know that any changes to the drafts during/after implementation will be additional costs. I havnt had any other problems with any other clients, but my current client has pretty much changed his entire set of drafts, and the amount of to-ing and fro-ing, like "what about this", then when you do it, "no i liked the way it was before", "infact, try this", "no sorry, can we go back to the way it was" - and this is during coding, which can be a nightmare to keep changing code structure. I would not be exaggerating in saying im getting around 10 change requests A DAY from what he originally signed off on the initial drafts that I created in fireworks. How do you guys handle this?
September 20, 201213 yr The time to nip this sort of thing in the bud is before it starts. Explain that having received signoff on the design as-is you'll first build it to that spec, and any alterations can be done at the end on an hourly basis. Bit harder to have that chat once you've started, but you could point out that changes past signoff are affecting the whole structure of the project and massively increasing your workload, and as such you need to switch to hourly until he's done farting around.
September 20, 201213 yr i hope you have a deposit and some payment plan so that they don't withhold payment until loads of changes have been done. might be an idea to bill 'redesigns' separately to make sure they pay
