Which web developing course?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to persue a career in web developing or design and wanted to know what courses people thought were best?

I keep looking at these online courses with computeach and learndirect but something tells me they're going to be a waste of time?

I'm currently 'enrolled' at Treehouse.

I've learned quite a bit in the few months that I've been with them.

I'd like to vouch for the guys at Envato and their http://tutsplus.com courses.

They do great video courses from great instructors including Jeffrey Way.

If you want structured online learning, look at something like Treehouse.

This looks pretty good RD would you say its as good as or better than lynda.com?

I'd go so far as saying that anything is better than Lynda.

Treehouse is great for structure and the feature of the badges which aims for achievement. TutsPlus is good because of the amount of users that use it and get involved in the respective course forums which are also used by the instructors.

Maybe time to have a little look although I have to say the php course i'm doing is fairly easy to follow on Lynda.com but always open to try something else!

Of course it's always down to personal preference. I just find that the videos on TutsPlus are always more engaging. The community on the course related forums are great too, plus you get a shedload of free books when you subscribe.

The one thing Lynda does have over everything else is quantity. It has got courses on far more subjects than TutsPlus.

Is Treehouse a free online tutorial?

No, there are different levels of pricing based on what you wish to subscribe to.

Why? I was thinking of trying out some of their more advanced courses but maybe not...

As I explained above, it's all down to personal preference. If you like what you see in the reviews then go for it.

I don't like how they edge the majority of tutorials to working within Dreamweaver.

Another good thing with TutsPlus is that they are very up to date and follow current trends very well.
