Give Me feedback > My Updated Portfolio

Featured Replies

Hey all, wanted some feedback on my portfolio site.

Some background. My site has been neglected for about 3 years, and recently had a need to update it. I considered a redesign, but not sure I have the time to do it. The site is on wordpress, a custom theme I built. I'm looking for feedback on my latest work, as well as the overall design and experience of the site. Warning, the site may be a bit slow and buggy, but overall, should hold up ok.

Thanks in advanced...

11px body text grey on black? I can't read it. Which is somewhat ironic since you are plugging yourself as a "user experience" designer. With that in mind, I didn't spend any time really looking at anything else on your site.

The animated mugshot is pretty creepy, too.

I'm not being unkind, just saying what I see.

Totally agree with you. Grey text on black background is bad. I fixed. I guess I wasn't thinking people would actually read the intro :D I'm not looking for freelance work, nor do I want anyone to really discover the site without a direct link to it. It's more of a personal archive. So I guess I was thinking of the site as anything but but a shell.

Hopefully it didn't turn you off too much to not consider digging in further.

Creepy mug shot, I tried to do something different. Hopefully I don't get that comment again.

Hi there,

you portfolio side is a little misleading in my view. It looks like you have worked on various major projects. However I can't see that they were completed from start to finish just by yourself.

You need to be honest and write a little about each project and the work that you committed to it. Its also a good thing to give shout out to others that worked on those projects. I agree with notbanksy, the mugshot is a little freaky, and you should get rid.

Stevo!

Wow, two votes for creepy. Maybe if I were better looking it wouldn't be so creepy. :D

About the work on the site. Most of it was done by me and only me (believe it or not). Another thing to note, in the environment I work, expectations are somewhat unrealistic, so a lot of the time I'll quickly do a mock to present an idea. After I get buy in from stakeholders, I'll pass the project over to another team, a lot of times during this process the product will change. Most of the newer stuff presented is just that, conceptual work. Though 2-3 of my newer items was a group effort, in particular the iPad and iPhone news app.

I do intend to provide more detail on the projects.

In regards to the mugshot, I think GIFs can be a really nice little feature. Perhaps try a little wave or something? It looks like the user is looking through the webcam at you or something I think this gives it the creepiness.

I spat my tea over the screen when I first read the creepy comments, not sure why, thanks for Sat am amusement!

Definiately throw in a wave and a smile, doesn't matter how good looking or ugly you are, you should smile, perhaps point at the coffee, coffee goooood, bang chest, dance around with a cuddly teddy, do a 'Pob' on the lens of the webcam...

But don't just hobble over your keyboard like you're hunting down pixelated snatch.

I'm finding that flash a little creepy too. Its kinda cool when you realise it moves but it gives the impression I've accidentally got into a webcam chat with you, made me feel like I'm being watched.

OK, crazy no one can get past the webcam like video, and not one comment about the work on the site. I'm rethinking the whole video now, since it was never intended to be the focus of on the homepage.

On your about page, I would prefer if the top portion (your photo & about me text) and the bottom section (recognition & work experience) shared the same widths. The change of column widths looks a little out of place.

Contact page could also use something else on it, looks bare with just the form.

On the whole I really like your portfolio and your work is very impressive.

Thanks for the feedback.

I made some tweaks to the grid to make it more consistant. Also, I removed the web cam animation and put a static image as a placeholder. Thinking of moving the contact form to about screen.
