June 22, 201214 yr u can check for portfolio website inspiration here and ur slider and contact form on home page is out of place? Edited June 22, 201214 yr by sash_oo7
June 22, 201214 yr Author Hi Sash_007 thanks for the link i will see what ideas come together. For the slider and contact on my big screen 40" tv it views fine how i want it. i know on my ipad it doesn't look in place.and i will want to make it fit in all browsers best i can. I was wondering what size of screen you were using ? And would i be best to put the width in percentage of those elements or make up sepertate stylesheet ? Thanks scott
June 22, 201214 yr Don't border your entire website, use more colors, too monotone. Play with more fonts and please, not everything in bold. Work on the layout, its quite messy imo. And don't go with the standard, business, company profile type of layout. Portfolio should be where you brag bout yourself, so it must be wild, creative and fun to look. Search up "best artistic web design" or "best portfolio design". All designers try to make something new and out of the box, because, its your portfolio lols. Btw, nice icons
June 22, 201214 yr Author Hi marcelc yes i agree about some parts being monotone needs a tad more colors and i take your feedback on board as well some good suggestions, thats the great thing about these forums we can be biased when we make something ourselves and constructive feedback can help from developing bad habits. When you say layout is messy do you mean where the icons, links.pics etc are laid out ? Thanks Scott

June 27, 201214 yr Hey there, Good on you for getting your site up and accepting some pointers. I am fairly new to web design so I really don't know everything, however there are a few things that i feel would improve your site: Im guessing that the other pages of your site arent up yet as the links do nothing? when you do have these pages sorted just make sure that each navigation item takes me to a different page. Another thing with the navigation, i would space them out evenly both sides With your contact form I think making all the elements allign would create a better path to completion visually. Im not to sure a back button is needed in your form, you want to provide as little need for thought as possible when someone is filling in their details. The only thing they need to think about is hitting that send button once their information has been entered. I think your homepage needs some more written content, i am a big fan of white space but there needs to be some sort of selling of your self to make me click through your site, if i was a customer, I think i would want to know if your the kind of person that i want to work with before i spend my valuable time looking at your other pages. Lastly I think using a grid system or something to give your site an underlying structure and flow would improve its aesthetics, check out the 960 grid system which may be of help. I hope what ive said has is useful and hope you can build on it . Anyway must say well done with getting your portfolio site up, mine is still in progress and has been for a long time.
June 27, 201214 yr The thing that will put people off more than anything is poor grammar and spelling. Or example a lot of content on sites you have done are poorly worded and missing a lot of punctuation (comma's, apostrophe's etc.) It gives a wholly amateur feel. For example on your website your i's should be uppercase, sneak is spelt wrong and you have put HTML, CSS where an and is required. If you're not good with that sort of thing, get maybe a family member who is to check your written content.
June 27, 201214 yr Author Hi guys thanks for your feedback its more showing i have extra skills if applying for a job than trying to be a web designer the design is just a hobby i'm trying to learn.and there's no plans to show the site just yet. content at the moment i am writing out offline, but i have a habit of just throwing random words and sayings when playing about just to fill space, but nobody even knows about the site so i have time to think more on content I like the idea of the grid system and shall read up more on it. But grammar yes it is poor very poor as pointed out a lot by members of my family lol but it is something i'm looking to learn on myself. But great points because i do want to learn to do everything right and image is important for whatever the reason i use this site, and with these things pointed out it up's my desire to improve Thanks Scott
June 29, 201214 yr take your head back to photoshop and add a lyer style. Your image has a nasty white pixel line around it, this can be removed with a black inner-glow. make this 1-2 pixels wide and play with the opacity until it blends better with a black background. then save it and use instead of your current head image, and also use the eraser to remove all the crap you forgot to clean up. When I choose "view image" with right mouse click I can see all the imperfections of your png. file. p.h.
June 29, 201214 yr w3c validator shows a few errors, quite important to fix these. especially if you state to create validated to web standards on your homepage. p.h.
