Yet another "How much should I charge" thread

Featured Replies

I was asked to do a web shop, I normally charge €120 per year for small scale shops, and the client inputs his own products.

I was asked to create a pretty large shop, and the client wants me to insert over 1000 products instead of him doing it himself... it's a tedious and boring task...

How much extra should I ask for having to input so many products?

How long will it take you?

Even if you don't quote it to clients, you must have an hourly rate that you use for internal calculations. It's just like any other job, it will take a finite amount of time so either quote it hourly of give a fixed price for the project, both will require an estimate on your part. Nobody else can set your rate.

As above, if they are entered from a spreadsheet, then all that leaves is the manual processing of the images

However, if it all has to be entered in manually, complete 10 yourself and time it

Multiply this by somewhere between 100 and 110

You may speed up, but it is the boredom factor

Equally, you can only perform so many then need a break (which the client should also pay for hence the 10% additional cost)

Also, supply this as an estimate only, not a quote, if this is a one-off project

Advise the client that the actual cost may vary, if it takes less time than expected it will be cheaper, but it may take longer and will be more expensive, and on completion a full timesheet is available if required

I didn't know that about Excel and Opencart... Thanks!
