I've spent most of this morning wrestling with networking.

I recently moved my office from a corner of the living room next to the router into the spare bedroom. My desktop has a wireless card already, so I was able to connect that ok - but when I picked up my HP Microserver I had to leave it downstairs within cabling distance of the router, and the cats like to sit on it. More recently I bought a Cisco 7940 phone to replace the SIP client I was running on my desktop, so I needed to sort out my network pretty sharpish.

Enter my old Linksys WRT54Gv2. A quick flash to the latest DD-WRT 3rd party firmware and it's now bridging wirelessly to the router downstairs, my phone and PC are plugged in (the Linksys gets better reception than the PC's network card) and I can move the little server to a cat-free position next to my desk.

Feeling quite pleased with myself.

This is what I see when I look at that post. Congrats :good:

Where do your cats sit now? It must have been warm on top of the HP Microserver and now you've annoyed them!

Wherever they like; they're cats.

Piles of clean laundry, mostly.

I haven't used DDWRT in years sinse I moved into a shared house. I should dust off my old WRT54G and give it a whirl again. Can never have too many access points :D

Aside from the other achievements this is the most important move, getting some separation between your living and office space!
