New web designer saying hello!

Hi everyone

I am studying web design part time, having taught myself originally when I was 13. In my 20's now, I'm discovering it's all changed quite a lot to say the least. So far I have learnt HTML and CSS and am very basic on PHP. Want to master these, Photoshop and JavaScript this year then hopefully start working full time in web design.

Here is my first website www.rookerynookinverness.co.uk which I'm pretty happy with. It's very simple and is my first fully hand coded site. I've been using Wordpress to develop other sites and will link to them when they are live.

Looking forward to chatting to other designers and I'm sure learning a lot from you knowledgable folk ;)

Hi sally.

Hey Sally, welcome!

Nice simple site. Hope you don't mind me making a suggestion. You could give it an easy but really impactful improvement if you injected some typo heirarchy into your headings and menu items. I just played around for 10 mins, see attached imaged.

Just introducing some Serif's (georgia) for your heading and menu items and a few other sizes helps quite a bit. Containing your menu items helps define them in the header also.

Just some suggestions though, I like the simple style, very fitting for a holiday home.
