Can you identify this SEO strategy?

I'm doing a bit of competitor analysis using domain-pop.com - I'm checking the backlinks on a similar site to one I'm working on. He has a PR 3 site with 400 backlinks.

When I look at the sites who are linking to his, they're all the same sort of thing. It's always a 300-400 word article, not relivent at all to the keyword/niche, and his keyword/link is just stuffed in there in the middle of a sentence. e.g. "flowers look beautiful during the spring [backlink] time".

Does this look like some sort of auto-backlinking medthod? Is there a name for it?

Thanks

It could be one of 2 things, it depends on the type of site these articles are on. if it is article sites then they are doing article submission and if they are on blogs they are probably doing guest blog posts. These can be paid for or not depending on the niche and quality etc so isn't a black and white pigeon hole.

Of the 2 I would say that guest blog posts are the more effective assuming they are hosted on niche relevant sites.

Thanks for the replies - I thought it might be something grey area.

They are the 1st result on Google though for; London 'insert keyword' - so their tactics must be working.

Article submission is probably what you would be looking for if you want it.

I've been testing some things recently which prove that this style of "automated/outsourceable" link building certainly works in the short term. We still advocate mixing up a range of tactics for longer term scalability especially on more competitive keywords.

@shaneo85 if you want to discuss further DM me^^

Ideally though, you get to a point where all else being equal that the content you create is what gains you the most inlinks and easiest kind of linkbuilding there is.
