I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm sure some kind bod will point me in the right direction.

 

My client's web host has moved their website to a secure server only allowing pre-authorised IP addresses.

 

I do not have a static IP address, never saw the need before.

 

Is there a way round this, I work on a mac, is there a way to assign a static IP or does this have to be provided by my ISP? I'm on BT btw.

Indeed, this is something you will have to apply for, from your internet provider, and in most cases, will cost you a monthly fee. Very unusual thing for the web host to do... Was this requested by yourslf or your client?

As others have said, you'll need to contact your ISP and request a fixed IP.

 

In theory you could also connect through a VPN/proxy that has it's own fixed IP.

 

I'm guessing you're restricting access to your site for privacy/security reasons?
