Good Quality Backlinks

Featured Replies

I have completely re-written my site to be search engine friendly and am nearly at the point where I can't add anymore keyphrase content as it will look spammy. I'm now looking into getting really good backlinks to the site, I have a few already but need more, can anyone suggest any websites or organisations.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Al

Relevant blogs, a few good directories (dont just spam all directories will be bad in long run, just a few good ones try DMOZ) try link baiting, add a blog to your site, try to a article published relevant to your site.

A quick guide if you want more detail fell free to ask I will answer later when I have more time.

Maybe give us a link to your site?

IMO the homepage doesn't contain enough content, the navagation could do with a hover effect to make it more obvious.

Your using tables which a bg no no from a point of SEO you should be using CSS to position everything. You should also be using <H1>, <H2> etc tags.

The site already has a page rank of 3 and I think if you tidied it all up you get high in google for Wedding Photographers. If you need any help my SEO rate is very reasonable compared to some companies who charge an arm and a leg.

Those relevancy reports are pretty bogus to be honest...

A few SEO experts I learnt off use them for quick analysis when giving a client a free report. I agree they aren't the greatest.

Thanks for the replies, really interesting.

I'm not too clued up on CSS but would like to look into it a little, can anyone suggest any resource websites on CSS and creating hover menus? What do you mean by using CSS to position everything? I've just always stuck to tables for ease of use. Would changes to the structure improve the google rank substantially?

Any more feedback would be great.

CSS is the current standard for laying out websites as tables should only be used to display tabular data. The HTML document should only contain the structure of the document and all styles (CSS) and behaviour (JavaScript) should be kept separate. Some good places to learn CSS is the W3Schools. To take a look at the power of CSS, head over to CSS Zen Garden. And just to start you off into directly creating a layout in CSS (this helped me when I first started out), I recommend the Pixel2Life CSS Layout Tutorial.

Hope that helps you dive into CSS. If you want to get started and experiment quickly, I recommend the last link.

SEO is a minefield. It takes a lot to fully get your head around it especially if you are totally new to it. I am nowhere near close to fully getting to grips with it. All I can recommend is read, read and read some more when it comes to SEO. I have heard good things about SEOBook (http://www.seobook.com) and have subscribed to their blog recently myself. Might be a good place to start, as they tend to favour more organic or natural forms of SEO which I think in the long run is the best thing to aim for.

As for CSS... bite the bullet mate... you really ought to be focusing as much time as you can to learning it, in a bid to move away from table-based layouts which are a no-no in modern web design. It took me a while to fully appreciate that, but I am much better off since ditching Dreamweaver and moving away from tables as a layout mechanism.

Of course you can, but its bloated and clunky as hell. Its definitely not the best text editor out there and its expensive. Plenty reasons to consider moving away from it and I am glad I did, like I stated above.

Out of interest, what would you recommend for mac/linux/pc

I transitioned straight from coding in notepad to coding in dreamweaver, never really bothered with anything else - only things I really like are

colour coded text

quick preview option

define local site folder

autocomplete tags

and built in ftp is useful now and again
