my cuz has asked me to design/build a website for his current business venture, Carmen, selling bespoke-made fashions. He didn't really give much of a brief, just that it should be clean, sharp, edgy and let the photography do the talking/colourising. Here's a site that he said to 'copy as much as u can off'

and here's what my current concept looks like without trying to pirate too much. What u think? The more i look at it, the more simple/boring i think it looks lol. Basically how can i make it look more CSS-ey or make it look more professional or more fitting for a fashion website? Right now i feel that its nothing a machine-code-template buuilder thingy cant do... all help/suggestions/feedback appreciated

and btw, is it normal to purchase domain name/web hosting at this stage even though it might take a while to code? Sorry for the noob question!

Your design looks clean and professional.

It just lacks a bit in contrast it looks kinda flat at the moment. And your menu looks a bit weird just floating in mid air. But other than that i think it looks good. You made a promising start.

Yep I think you're heading in the right direction. I'd suggest losing the top gradient and going plain white to give it more of that minimalist feel.

dunno why but removing the gradient really cleans it up, thanks, but now it just looks flat lol

 

anyone got any ideas on how to maybe introduce another colour? Or perhaps knows of other (fashion) sites that incorporate a clean minimalist style? I guess i want the clothing and photography to be the main emphasis so any other feedback is most welcome

I would also mention that your contrast needs to be higher to direct the users eye and make the site a little more striking. In the top design, you have the logo in black with white writing. I bet the whole thing would look good with and black background and the white logo, and white navigation links down the left hand site. That was my first thought. Then, you would be keeping the minamalist/professional chic while contrasting the site really well.

 

Overall, promising design though. I like the inside content boxes displaying the pictures!
